Desantis will take a hit if the 17 accused of fraud are found not guilty

DeSantis’s government told them they could vote. Then DeSantis’s government arrested them for voting.
No, they did no tell them they could vote. The law is clear about when you get your rights restored. They ignored it, filled out registration forms, lying that they had their rights restored, that were mailed to LOCAL registers office, and got caught.

The state is required by law to verify eligibility of registrants.

It looks like 17 people in Florida were told that they had the right to vote even though they were not eligible.

Then they voted, and Desantis finalized the entrapment by charging them with fraud crime.

Is a judge tosses the chargers, this will be a big hit for Desantis as nobody will ever believe him when he claims fraud, like Trump.

Let's hope these people don't get convicted so Desantis doesn't get this credited.
Yea you’re right. The gig is up for DeSantis. If only we had Andrew Gollum as Governor there, things would be so much better.

Sure, but the application goes to the LOCAL Registrater office. The bottom line, is they lied on the forms, and they were caught.

The law lays out perfectly clear the requirements

You let us know when even one of them gets found guilty. It's not going to happen.

ans they are saying they aren’t eligible. Hence the charges

citizens are expected to know the law, ignorance of the law is not a defense

maybe not, maybe they have a defense. I don’t know everyone’s case. at this point there has been probate cause to bring the charge

According to state law, the Department of State Division of Elections is supposed to notify the local supervisors of elections offices with lists of who is unable to vote due to felony convictions.

Gerri Kramer, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections told 10 Investigates in August her office follows legal protocol to remove voters from the rolls upon receipt of that list.

However, Kramer said her office did not get a notification the six from Hillsborough County were ineligible to vote until after the 2020 election. In some cases, the notification took more than a year.

Arrest videos reveals shock over voter fraud charges

Legal experts say to convict those arrested on voter fraud charges, prosecutors will have to prove they intentionally tried to deceive the system and based on the evidence, that could be tough to prove.

hahaa not in the united states. You don’t get to say “i didn’t know the speed limit was only 25” and get off
Depends on the offense.

How do you not know this? Aren't you a lawyer?

In 2020, a representative of the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections conducted a series of outreach efforts at the local county jail to let inmates know of their new rights and offer to help them add their names to the voter rolls.

A government official goes to them and tells them they can vote and he registers them. The state approves the registration. They then get arrested.

Even a dime store lawyer could likely successfully argue they were set up for political gain.

In this case the state told them the limit was 35 and they could drive that.

thanks for highlighting it was LOCAL officials..not the State

but that’s a great defense. also not surprised that’s a heavy dem party area as well

Some laws require that the person knowingly and willingly violate them.

You didn’t know that?
haha no they don’t…certainly might be mitigating…but doesn’t impact guilt

but please provide a list…

huh? the law certainly states what they have to do to vote. If some local dem officials told them they could…as your link provided, that’s a mitigating factor in their punishment but not a not guilty

None will be found guilty.

This week, the Fifth Circuit State Attorney's Office completed its investigation into voter fraud in Lake County during the 2020 general election.

The investigation began after Gainesville-based database researcher Mark Glaeser cross-checked Florida voter lists against the FDLE's public Florida Sexual Offenders database. Through his research, he found that six registered sex offenders in Lake County cast ballots.

Ultimately, office decided it would not file charges.

"In all of the instances where sex offenders voted, each appear to have been encouraged to vote by various mailings and misinformation," Jonathan Olson, the office's division supervisor and an assistant state attorney, wrote in a statement. "Each were given voter registration cards which would lead one to believe they could legally vote in the election. The evidence fails to show willful actions on a part of these individuals. Therefore, the State is unable to file charges."
