Once again, all that is necessary for those societies to reach zero population growth is to industrialize them. You don't even need them to be laissez-faire capitalists.

Australia already limits showers to 5 minutes via laws, some US states are already managing water use as well. And we could all eat less, use less energy, and walk or ride a bicycle to where we wanna go instead of drive.

Can either do these things now voluntarily, or wait until we're compelled to by draconian laws that come about as the rest of the world puts increasing pressure on the US to reduce its gluttonous energy and resource consumption. Though we're just 5% or so of the world's population, we use 25% of its resources. That's unacceptable.

We have plenty of resources. The solution is to get the government out of the way and let private enterprise solve the shortages under reasonable government regulations. But it is the private markets that meets demands while the government can only resort to rationing.

Every time in the last 500 years we have had shortages, technology solved the issues though often introducing lesser concerns than the prior problems. But things are working toward a final resolution that many refer to as the Technological Singularity.

We don't have to live like ants to survive.
