Democrats Torpedo Compromise Funding Bill: Only 2 Dems Voted for It, While 172 Republicans Voted for It--When Will Enough Dems Compromise?

No flying, period. TSA and ATC. If they are not working, nothing flies.

TSA and ATC are considered "essential workers" therefore they work with no pay. Once the government is funded they get back pay.

Slowdowns come from TSA and ATC workers, who not being paid, call in sick.

Shamefully, only 2 Democrats voted for the compromise spending bill that Speaker Johnson submitted yesterday. 172 Republicans voted for it, with 38 voting against. Thus, if just 33 Democrats had voted for it, it would have passed and there'd be no worry about a government shutdown during Christmas.

The compromise bill contained about 80-85% of the provisions of the original bill, which is why 38 hardline Republicans voted against it. Speaker Johnson needed help from the Democrats to pass the bill, but only 2 Democrats voted for it.

Democrats are hoping they can extort Johnson into caving in and submitting the original bill, which would most likely pass because at least 50 Republicans would vote for it just to avoid a shutdown. But why can't the Democrats compromise and accept 80-85% of what they originally said they wanted?
Republicans don’t understand compromise
They had a bipartisan bill and killed it

Coming back with a bill taking out things Democrats wanted is not compromise

Who's worried? I'm not, are you? Shutting down the Federal Government would be a nice Christmas Present for the American People. Heck according to recent reports by the New York Times and Wall Street Journal President Biden has been shutdown for the last 4 years and we're all still here.

If the vote was 172 Republicans for and 38 Republicans against, (210) what happened to the other 9 Republican members of the HoR? Why are the Republicans relying on the Democrats in the House to vote for a CR when they have the majority in House? Sounds like the Republicans need to get their act together before President Trump takes office.

So the 38 GQPers who voted against it are actually Dems?
If the Progressives were voting on it while in control even with a thin majority, it would pass. It is easy to add to any legislation. It is to Progs advantage as they love it. It is difficult to get things under control when we know it has to happen and do not have the will to do so as there is less money to give out.

Democratic strategist James Carville criticized his party on Thursday for suppressing dissent on issues like sex changes and border policy.

Carville’s remarks follow Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts calling out his party on Nov. 10 for attempting to “cancel people rather than having debates about issues that Americans care about” following backlash to his comments regarding transgender athletes competing in female sports. Carville, on “Politics War Room,” accused Democrats of enforcing a tyrannical adherence to their “philosophy” that undermines the party’s electability.

The Democrat Party needs to listen to James Carville.

Shut it down and make it painful so that Congress will really hear from constituents.

  • Government workers (all of them) are sent home with no back pay for time missed. This includes EVERYONE.
  • Air Traffic Controllers get to stay on the job until aircraft have landed, no new flights are allowed to take off or enter American air space from other countries if they took off after the shutdown time.
  • FBI, Border Patrol, NSA, CIA, etc. - Go home. We'll call you to come back.
  • Government processing of financials stops.
  • No Social Security checks issued.
  • No Medicare checks issued.
  • No VA checks issued.
  • No pay for the military.
  • Payment to State and School districts for everything stops.
  • Federal Courts shut down.
  • etc.

Congressional staff is sent home. The only ones allowed to work in the empty Capital Building are the actual members of Congress because under the Constitution their compensation cannot be reduced during their term of office so they are the only ones getting paid.

If a shutdown was a real shut down Congress would think twice before ignoring their responsibilities and pulling political stunts.

You want to make it "painful", force the Congress Critters to work outside in the cold, on the streets, in a bad neighborhood.

This highlights the disfunction of todays Republican Party.

Forget trying to get Democrats to support you, Republicans can’t even get their own party to support their legislation.
Johnson should not send any bill to the floor without consensus in his own party. But he keeps trying and failing.

Embarrassing for Republicans
Republicans are incapable of leading

Look, f*ck the government, let the democrats SHUT IT DOWN. It really affects very little. Maybe they will close the Washington Monument to public tours again. Other than that, a lot of federal workers will have their pays delayed. If the new bill still had 80% of the old, I would have voted it down too.

When the bill gets to about 30% of the original bill, they should vote to fund it. ITMT, I would let hell freeze over and blame the democrats for holding things up trying to once again stuff a bill full of all kinds of irrelevant pork.

At this time any bill that can pass the republican house will not pass the democrat senate

Well, Democrats are part of the picture, aren't they? The GOP only narrowly controls the House and seldom vote 100% in lock step. From the sounds of it, this bill still had too much in it to deserve to pass anyway, and both lots of the GOP AND DNC both didn't support it. Let the government shut down.

If the democrats don't like it, they should have SUPPORTED THE BILL. I can tell you this, if they didn't like THIS bill, they really aren't going to like the NEXT one!

Democrats agreed to bipartisan legislation
Tesla Boy trashed it

Now, Republicans have nothing

shot down by GOP hardliners.

I love your spin! GOP "hardliners;" I guess that means anyone in the GOP who doesn't kiss democrat ass.

A lot more democrats voted against it than did republicans, so, WHO shot it down again???

All the DNC had to do is VOTE FOR IT, and it would be law right now.

So this means democrats will be responsible for the government shut down...
