Democrats Torpedo Compromise Funding Bill: Only 2 Dems Voted for It, While 172 Republicans Voted for It--When Will Enough Dems Compromise?

Shamefully, only 2 Democrats voted for the compromise spending bill that Speaker Johnson submitted yesterday. 172 Republicans voted for it, with 38 voting against. Thus, if just 33 Democrats had voted for it, it would have passed and there'd be no worry about a government shutdown during Christmas.

The compromise bill contained about 80-85% of the provisions of the original bill, which is why 38 hardline Republicans voted against it. Speaker Johnson needed help from the Democrats to pass the bill, but only 2 Democrats voted for it.

Democrats are hoping they can extort Johnson into caving in and submitting the original bill, which would most likely pass because at least 50 Republicans would vote for it just to avoid a shutdown. But why can't the Democrats compromise and accept 80-85% of what they originally said they wanted?
  • Republicans ran into a wall of resistance from Democrats, who were in no hurry to appease demands from Trump. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said Democrats were sticking with the original deal with Speaker Mike Johnson and called the new one “laughable.”

  • The new proposal whittled the 1,500-page bill to 116 pages and dropped a number of add-ons. Adding an increase in the debt ceiling to what had been a bipartisan package is a show-stopper for Republicans who want to slash government and routinely vote against more borrowing. Almost three dozen Republicans voted against it.

Why does Trump want the debt ceiling destroyed when the plan is to reduce spending not increase spending?

It's not our job to help you guys govern.

If MAGA Mike can't do his job, they should get someone who can.

If they shut down imagine all tsa workers just stopping? That would be a mess.

Just wondering. Aren't tsa workers govt workers? Why should they have to work without a paycheck? Or do private companies pay them?
I'm not sure but my guess would be that the handling of airline workers was probably established with the traffic controllers strike during the Reagan administration. At any rate, I doubt that they would be forced to work without pay.

What a horror, no perverts pawing over people trying to travel, no wide spread theft of property, paying customers going their way without interference. Like we used to do.

No people flying into tall buildings? Like we used to have?

We had a bipartisan deal that you kids killed at the 11th hour.

Don't try to pretend this is something Democrats did to you.
