I mentioned this in another post. Being their own water management district they get away with destroying wetlands, rerouting waterways and draining the aquifer without having to account for the environmental damage. Anybody else would have to get permits and pay tons of money for mitigation.

Disney has been an ecological disaster for Orange and Osceola Counties because of the sweetheart deal. They don't have to do Environmental Impact Studies or get state or county permits for pollution sources.

For years Disney didn't even have anyone on staff at Disney World that was responsible for Environmental because they weren't adhering to the regulations. In the 1990s they had an incident with some pretty nasty hazardous waste and the Feds jumped on their ass so they hired a small staff of three Environmental professionals. I know because one of my friends was one of the hires. For an entity of their size and impact their Environmental staff should be about 25-30 people but they have only a small number.

It is amazing that the Liberals, who are always bitching about the Environment, are siding with one of the biggest polluters in the state because of their hate of DeSantis.
