What's wrong with mate? That's gender inclusive. I was an electrician's mate in the CG. Some of it was pretty physical though, as was boot camp. Obviously they lowered standards to be politically correct.

Lots of the Navy and military in general is traditional. Turning everything upside down might please the leftists but it can't be good for overall morale.
