It was fought to the tune of trillions of dollars of taxpayer money. The problem is that you can never stamp out poverty, there will always be people who make stupid decisions and/or have no ambition. What people like you ignore is that "poverty" in the USA is a solid middle-class existence in most of the world. With all the governmental programs for the "poor" we have no real poverty, no one starves in the streets, the "poor" have the disposable income for internet and cell phones and most are overweight. I was raised poor and know what it really is, there were many months when the last week of the month we ate beans or mac and cheese out of a box, new clothes were Christmas or birthday presents, most of my normal clothes came from thrift stores. There were no free lunch and breakfast programs in the schools, I brown bagged PeanutButter and jelly every day and drank water for lunch.

1) Actually, what we spend on poverty relief (probably less than 500 Bn a year in adjusted dollars) is a pittance compared to what we pay in Middle-Class Entitlements (Well over 2.5 Trillion if you count Medicare, VA, Social Security, and Unemployment insurance.) So we spend a lot of money keeping middle-class white people from becoming poor and not so much raising the poor out of poverty.

2) The poor are often overweight because the processed food they are fed is unhealthy by design. McDonald's gets rich, poor people are unhealthy, and only the right wing thinks this is a good thing.

3) I'm not sure what your testimonial has to do with anything. It would depend on time period and how big your family was. I grew up in a middle class lifestyle, but it was a stretch because there were 7 of us living in a three bedroom home, especially with the hyperinflation of the 70s.

Um, it's the law. Frankly, as for "enforcement", I've only seen EEOC take a side once in my career, and that's when a white woman sued the company for firing her because she had no business being a supervisor. It was an expensive, drawn-out lawsuit, which the company tried to mitigate by promoting another white woman who had no business being a supervisor, either. I think in the end she won, but her monetary damages barely covered her legal fees.

(This was the company with the Jewish Manager who eventually ran it into the ground doing boneheaded stuff like this.)

Artificial intelligence is the latest in a series of computer developments that increase the relationship between intelligence and success. Artificial intelligence still needs to be developed and programmed.
