Because there are NGOs in Mexico coaching the illegal aliens to demand asylum knowing that their hearings are nearly a decade out at this point. Something north of ninety percent of asylum seekers don’t even bother to show up for their hearings and most that do are denied. Economic hardship is not grounds for political asylum.
