I don't think it's going to get that far. If they do what they said they were going to do which is concentrate on the violent offenders ...they have a whole Year's worth of work ahead of them just doing that.

I think the policy will soften as people see the violent offenders being permanently removed.

LOL.....Back in the day small villages up and down the Shenandoah Valley could easily lose half their population when ICE would raid the poultry/warehousing operations.

When I worked in Silicon Valley in a large manufacturing plant, about 1/4 of the employees were illegal and the same thing would happen when 'immigration' came through. (It wasn't called ICE at that time). A lot of illegal workers would be taken back over the border but in a week or so, they'd be back. A lot of them were making American dollars and sending those dollars back to family in Mexico.

Most immigrants aren't criminals. Most of them just want to come here and do the menial jobs you and I wouldn't want to do.

I want them here because I think they should have the same fair chance that our ancestors had. And also, without immigration, America would find itself in a demographic death spiral like Japan and South Korea are currently going through.

This is very rational to me, but I doubt it's rational to you.

The problem is, many industries rely on undocumented labor. So they'll make a few showy raids, but a lot of the undocumented just won't show up for work once word gets out that's where the ICE Jackboots are this week. They'll get jobs somewhere else.

Actually under 8 U.S. Code § 1325 illegal entry is a crime with penalties with up to 6 months in jail (misdeomeanor) and 8 U.S. Code § 1326 is illegal reentry which is a felony with up to 2 years in prison.
