In a Republic, actually
‘Trump’s order accusing the Smithsonian Institution of not reflecting American history notes correctly that the country’s Founding Fathers declared that “all men are created equal.”

But it doesn’t mention that the founders enshrined slavery into the U.S. Constitution and declared enslaved persons as three-fifths of a person for the purpose of the Census.

Civil rights advocates, historians and Black political leaders sharply rebuked Trump on Friday for his order, entitled “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.” They argued that his executive order targeting the Smithsonian Institution is his administration’s latest move to downplay how race, racism and Black Americans themselves have shaped the nation’s story.

“It seems like we’re headed in the direction where there’s even an attempt to deny that the institution of slavery even existed, or that Jim Crow laws and segregation and racial violence against Black communities, Black families, Black individuals even occurred,” said historian Clarissa Myrick-Harris, a professor at Morehouse College, the historically Black campus in Atlanta.’

It doesn’t seem that way – that’s exactly what Trump is doing: to normalize and sanitize racism in American history, making racism acceptable today.

Trump does not want any recognition of Americas past, the struggles and triumphs of the oppressed.

We are not to learn that our nation oppressed blacks, Hispanics, native Americans, gays and women

Crazy people say crazy things like "deep state", and they also believe that the California wildfires are started by Israeli space lasers. Is this you Marge? :icon_rolleyes:

You would think that the dems would applaud the effort since they were the ones that Jim Crow laws, segregation, racial violence against black communities, black families, black individuals were perpetuated by.
Yet it is REPUBLICANS whitewashing that legacy of hate
Don’t say anything that would make America look bad

Let's remember Jim Crow by recalling that the Democrat Party was behind it.

As white, Southern Democrats took over legislatures in the former Confederate states, they began passing more restrictive voter registration and electoral laws, as well as passing legislation to segregate blacks and whites.

No issue with that. Issue when making people gods. We are going to name an aircraft carrier after Doris Miller. That is stupid. Naming a naval vessel after him like a destroyer is not. There are many ships that are from that level. This is what is crazy.

Please name a Nation that does NOT have a history of oppressing people based on economic class, race, creed, nationality, gender, or sexuality? America is exceptional in that it has evolved in comparison to other nations. This should be the focus; this should be what unites US and not focus on what DIVides US.

I am sure they did
But most did not have slavery or officially enforced second class citizenship like we did

It is our history.
It is who we are

Pretending it never happened does not change it

You are right. Living off it though is wholly different.

.....

History. Yes, the history of the 3/5 compromise is a real thing.

YOu spin it as "enshrined slavery into the constitution".

In reality, it was a move by ABOLITIONISTS, to weaken the political power of the slave states. The pro-slavery faction wanted the slaves counted as FULL PEOPLE.

That you choose to spin the "history" to be an attack on the Founding Fathers, instead of a sign of how quickly we started getting serious about the ALL MEN CREATED EQUAL fight,

is the point.

You libs are anti-American. YOu use "history" to tear America down, to indoctrinate the young into your cult of self hatred and leftism.

I would rather see the smithsonian BURN, than let it be used by people like you.

Where are the black MAGAs on this? Struth give us your take on your president.

At a guess, they are just as bored, BORED, omg god BORED, with the left whining about slavery as anyone, EVERYONE else.

The 3/5 compromise was anything but

Slave states wanted slaves to count as a full person. Even though they considered those people to have no more rights than livestock.

Those 3/5 representatives did not represent the slaves
They represented those who wanted to keep them as slaves

So, your counterpoint is that the pro-slavery faction wanted to count the slaves as "Full person"

and thus, those that wanted to count them as LESS where the ones that wanted to "keep them as slaves"....

That makes no sense. If BOTH sides, if everyone involved, wanted to keep them as slaves, then counting them as "Full people" would have been passed without comment.

Instead, they, the pro-slaver faction, was UNABLE to do that and had to take the hit of only counting them as PARTIAL people for the purpose of congressional power.

You could not bring yourself to be honest about the role of the ABOLITIONISTS of the time, in fighting against slavery from the very beginning of this country.

You ended up talking nosense, rather than give credit where it was due, because you can only focus on the NEGATIVES, of America.

As long as there are people like you in the system, we cannot have a nuanced, or serious discussion of slavery or other racial issues, because you LIE in order to advance "THE MESSAGE".

Better to purge it all. And certainly all the people like you.

So, at best, reparations to blacks should only be 2/5ths so, I so declare that we should pay reparations to all still living slaves (not their descendants) at that rate.
