There’s nothing irrational about being afraid of an illness which has killed hundreds of thousands.

Sure it is. If someone is asymptomatic, what do they expect the doctors to do if its confirmed? Do they expect to be admitted to the hospital? Intubated? Even if positive, they will be sent home.

We've had a super bad respiratory virus going around, and it struck many of my family members, but they all recovered, and only one got tested because she had to in order to see her primary physician. She was negative of course, but it got her 87 year old friend also. They both recovered just fine, but they still are coughing weeks afterwards. Same here, where as we got the thing also. It was no fun, but everybody got better quick.

May I ask what they thought it was? Because I've got that too, five weeks, terrible cough. Other respiratory symptoms. Caught it at Thanksgiving, more fool me.
