Could you live on $471,465 per year?

Hello IM2 Superbadbrutha they ain't inventing 10G in Somali or Anti-lock brakes in Bangladesh much, How is your Venezuelan IPAD doing you dumb OX? Maybe your Cuban lawnmower? They can't even copy and steal right.

The USA has inventions and sells useful items, increasing global productivity. The USA has 250 years of practice at it. American Chinese and Indians are big brains all over Silicon Valley inventing stuff. They want to come here BECAUSE when they hit it big, it pays off. Bill Gates may have stolen Microsoft OS, but he made it work. Now he has $100B. Would he get that in North Korea?

Could you live on $471,465 per year?

If Wealth Was Evenly Distributed Across the US, How Much Money Would Every Person Have?

According to the Federal Reserve, U.S. households hold $160.35 trillion in combined wealth, which is the value of every American’s assets minus their liabilities.

To say it’s distributed unevenly is too much of an understatement to even qualify as an understatement. The bottom 50% of the country shares less than 3% of that enormous pie, while the most fortunate 10% gorge on nearly all of it.

Here’s a look at how much money each American would have if every person got an equal slice of the country’s wealth.

According to Google’s Data Commons project, the U.S. is home to roughly 340.11 million people.

If they divvied up the country’s $160.35 trillion jackpot equally, each would have about $471,465. That’s $942,930 per couple. If a couple had two kids, the four of them would be sitting pretty with $1.89 million.

Aside from the fact that such massive redistribution of other people’s money would be nearly impossible to achieve (even if such a lunatic goal was at all desirable), that MSN piece fails to address taxes. Tax bills come yearly, from the Federal government and some states and most localities. But the redistribution of wealth would be a one time thing since you can’t take all hat much from the wealthy every year. (We don’t tax wealth. We tax yearly income.)

So the one time lump sum couldn’t get repeated. So, the folks earning that kind f money might be able to recover from their massive losses via their ability to earn more. The major recipients would deplete their undeserved and unearned newly found “wealth” and would still need to work to earn income to enjoy their temporarily elevated lifestyle.

The OP is absurd in its face. So what is the actual point of it?

Looks to be a one time payment. So the answer would be, a single person could probably live a few years on that. A family would be able to live off the interest, if they were thrifty
At 5% you could get nearly $25K interest annually. Along with SSI you could live at poverty level never touching the principal if you kept below the tax table married joint income deduction is about $31K?

His example is giving $500K wealth spread around to every living human in America? OK then how does the guy who had saved up $10million and was living in a $10million house with payments and taxes continue on? Not making payments and taxes and living on that amount. Then all the homes cars boats private schools hit the market and value drops to nothing despite the Gater comments earlier above. I am getting angry.

This is far too complicated. IM2 can't even ask a decent question. I asked one once. "find $2T extra money laying around for the GOVT to confiscate thru taxes" No one could really answer it. It would kill the GDP. some danced around about eliminate "spending thru the tax code".....get off my dammmmmed back already sheeat bag loons.

So, what you're saying is -- People aren't stupid because they're poor, they're poor because they're stoopid?

aka; People don't behave poorly because they're poor, they're poor because they behave poorly.

Or, as my Daddy used to say, "You can't fix Stupid"

Or, as the Great Philospher Edgetho once said, "dimocraps are scum"

They always have been, and they always will be. No matter how much money you throw at them.
Correct.

From each according to his ability to each according to his need

No, it's a yearly amount and you apparently don't know what wealth redistribution is. Nothing you say would happen after 2 years. Stay on topic and stop making assumptions. We have taken care of whites for 249 years now, so you really need to stop.
The total amount of wealth in the world wouldn't add up to what you claim. Try again.

In my experience of starting a business and watching it grow, wealth is created by people working together and producing products and services that people want or need. It isn't made by a single rich person.
And said rich person pays his workers an agreed upon wage for their time and ability, hence the claim that the wealthy create jobs. You’re pretty slow, but still managed to step on your own rake. Lulz.

If wealth were redistributed you would not get $471,446 every year because wealth would already have been redistributed. A wealthy person impoverished by redistribution would invest the money, or start a business. A poor person would go out for an expensive dinner, buy a new car, go on vacation. In a year the poor would again be poor. The wealthy would have all the money.

It might work for a month before hyperinflation and societal collapse kicks in….
You might be surprised at what would probably happen. The same amount of money/wealth would exist, it is just evenly distributed.

You might be surprised at what would probably happen..
I suspect you would be as well. Let's say you got your druthers, and the government confiscated all wealth and redistributed it equally. How long do you think it would take for things to end up right where they started? Five years? Ten?

To answer the asked question, the only thing that I can say about myself is that I am not one of those females who needs 50 pairs of shoes. In other words, I am pretty low maintenance for a girl. :) :) :)

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. So would $471,465 be enough for me?

15th post
You can. You can also die with $475,000 per year. Industrious and intelligent people earn wealth. Entitled losers want it “redistributed” to them. Which camp are you in?
I can tell who has money and who doesn’t on this board based on how they post about money. No one wants your tiny pile of dirt man.

I live quite comfortably, some might even say luxuriously, on slightly less than half of that.
