Technically this is not a First Amendment issue. Cornell is private.

Antisemitism has always been a problem among liberal colleges.

In the 80s, Leonard Jeffries (Hakeem’s uncle) was at CUNY (currently having a big problem with Jew-hate), and he was teaching his students all sorts of antisemitic lies.

What happened was that, at that time at least, CUNY relied on the donations of the successful, affluent Jewish alumni professionals (by then in their 50s) who had been poor but very bright Jewish boys in the 40s and 50s.

The money dried up. Jews were NOT going to help fund a school condoning antisemitism. So a compromise was reached - sort of like the one reached with the Harvard prez. Jeffries was demoted for Chair of the Department to professor. They really should have fired his ass.

Well, she has been on record calling for people to be banned for criticizing Israel. Or for deleting posts comparing the Israeli state to a Nazi state. It’s a very weak anti-American position by her. So yeah imagine if she was a lawmaker and was deciding if it’s OK to put somebody in jail for criticizing Israeli government officials harshly. … that’s really unfortunate because some of those types of politicians exist in America.

I’m a Christian man. I’m a proud American Irish and Italian heritage. And if somebody out there wants to say the Catholic Church is pure evil, I don’t care. Let them say whatever they want. I’ll just respond by praising something from Catholic history.

Funny thing is there is practically zero antisemitism on this forum. I mean, practically nothing at all. And all of us would demand that the extreme pro Israel people prove the antisemitism. They have to prove that the onus is on them by showing a quote of somebody saying Jews are inferior to non Jews. That’s it.

Yet we have several posters on this forum who have readily spewed hateful bigoted comments about Muslims, Arabs, and Palestinians.

There is a double standard, but few seem to acknowledge it.

The university is trying to draw this distinction, but would it do that if the singer was a klansman?
