"A former Kansas City, Missouri, police officer convicted in connection with the death of a man while on duty will be allowed to remain out of jail while he appeals his conviction. A judge ruled Eric DeValkenaere did not need to be remanded into custody while awaiting sentencing on his second-degree involuntary manslaughter and armed criminal action convictions in the death of Cameron Lamb.

In the original case, the judge agreed with the state's argument that DeValkenaere and his partner were the aggressors in this incident because they did not have probable cause that a crime had occurred and entered private property without a warrant or consent. The judge said DeValkenaere should be allowed to remain free through the appeals process because he's not a flight risk, nor is he a danger to the community. DeValkenaere is scheduled to be sentenced on March 4."

Well, it was bad enough that this guy is being inconvenienced enough with even having a trial...but to add to that, they had the audacity to convict him too?? The least the judge could do is allow this guy to remain free until the appeals process plays out...which will hopefully take many months to years...hopefully the state will just admit they were wrong and drop the case....

Luckily his bond was only 30 grand; that's a pretty good deal to be able to not have to spend a day in jail; even tho you were convicted of murder. Bout time we start giving cops a benefit of a doubt instead of trying to hold them accountable all the time.

I wonder why we never hear about stuff like this from Pointheadexer.

Two others were wounded in shootings in Chicago from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. Last weekend, six people killed and 25 others wounded in Chicago.

Was he convicted of murder or is your title wrong?
He is dead ain't he?

Sounds like murder to me....

The cop who killed this woman was never ever charged with anything...and it didn't stop the "back the blue" types on this message board from calling him a murderer...funny how that works

Sorry...but mindlessly spouting "..but but but other crimes happen and stuff" isn't the retort you think it is, boot licker...

Capitol police are not the local police. Maybe you should blame Nancy Piglosi for the aiding and abetting of the murder of Ashley...

Sounds like a corrupt judge and corrupt prosecutor---Obama and soros installed a bunch of them. Lets go research these two now.

And then when all his appeals are exhausted years down the road, a judge will quietly release him on probation and no jail because so much time has passed. What a joke.

Maybe the judge hates this kind of cop, and they think that the public will only deliver a more thorough sentence. Also do keep in mind that making such a move will only give the judge at least one more person to judge should such an occurrence take place any way. Anything to earn their paycheck while they continue to still get one of course that is. (shaking my head)

God bless you the family of the victim always!!!

Just because someone died don't mean they were murdered, but you know that.

In the case of Ashi Babbitt, do you think the cop was a murderer?
