See my post #92 though. There is the possibility that some would murder their victims to avoid such penalties, so there are no real easy answers. Teaching children to feel comfortable around sexual deviants is definitely not the answer though, IMO.

I really do not find that argument to be terribly compelling. It may once have been the case that murdering a victim increased a criminal's chances of getting away with that along with a lesser crime. With modern forensic technology, I don't think that the cliché really holds true so much any more, that “Dead men tell no tales.” A child being sexually abused might fail to come to the proper attention of those in a position to do anything about it, and if attention is called to the case, it might be difficult to prove that the child was actually molested and who was responsible. It's rather more difficult to hide the fact of a child being murdered than of a child being molested. A murdered child is pretty difficult to overlook, and tends to draw a very determined effort to bring the culprit to justice.
