Kentucky child killer walks free on 'good behavior,' gets arrested again within days

Ronald Exantus was released early from 20-year sentence for stabbing 6-year-old Logan Tipton in Kentucky home invasion

A man who was released from prison early after racking up good behavior credits following his conviction for fatally stabbing a 6-year-old Kentucky boy during a 2015 home invasion was arrested weeks later for violating his parole.
Ronald Exantus, 42, of Indianapolis, was serving a 20-year sentence for the killing of Logan Tipton, who was brutally slain in his Versailles, Kentucky, home, when he was released back onto the streets in October.
Despite confessing, Exantus was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity at trial. Instead, a jury found him guilty of the other assaults on Logan's family during the home invasion.
The release came after he accumulated credits that allowed him to shave nine years off his sentence.
"Something needs to be changed because it cannot be that easy. You’ve committed a very heinous crime, and it’s just given to you," Logan’s sister, Kora Tipton, said of Exantus’ early release.
On Oct. 1, Exantus was released before moving to Marion County, Florida. However, he was arrested eight days later for failing to register as a convicted felon with the local sheriff’s office within 48 hours of arriving, which was required by the conditions of his parole, the New York Post reported.
He has since been extradited to Kentucky. However, he could be released next year with no parole restrictions.
"There’s no reason for any of us to ever have to walk down the street and possibly see our son’s murderer," Dean Tipton, Logan’s father, told WKYT-TV earlier this week.

In response to Exantus' release, state Rep. T.J. Roberts is pushing for Logan's Law, a bill that would abolish mandatory reentry supervision.
"We’re going to make it to where if an individual is charged with multiple crimes for the same incident like we had here, you can’t have a split verdict on sanity versus insanity," Roberts said.

Commentary:
Not guilty for murder due to insanity, but sane enough to be guilty of “lesser” crimes. How can you not despise lawyers (not all), judges (not all), legislatures (not all) and the system? It’s just like Bidet, too old to really know what he’s saying or doing, but hey, good enough to run the country...
In this case, Ronald Exantus was found mentally unfit to be tried for murder but sane enough to charged and convicted of the assaults of the other family members. How is that possible. Doesn’t make sense at all.
Letting violent offenders free has to stop. The only solution is that the judge who releases them has to be held accountable for what they do. Have them live with the judges for 6 months if they feel this is such a great idea.
Mental illness is a scam used by defense attorneys to get people released or charged with lesser crimes.
It should play no roll in determining the conviction or the sentence or length. The only role should be to allow treatment while in prison.
Bad seeds need to be gleaned and cleansed from the pack. Without doing so you weaken the pack.
I’ve always believed that anyone found not responsible due to mental incapacity, should be housed in a secure mental institution until “cured”, then serve the maximum possible sentence for the crime(s) he/she committed.

Well, funny thing about that.

We lock up 2 million people.
We have another 7 million on probation or parole.
We have another 70 million with some kind of police record.

Just locking them all up would be impractical.
Wrong. It would save society hundreds of millions of dollars. Long, mandatory prison terms have been proven to reduce crime levels,

I cannot think of a worst crime than killing a child. It should be an automatic death penalty.

If that were true, the US would have the lowest crime rates in the Free World, not the highest.

We lock up 2 million people. Communist China doesn't lock that many people up.

Most other industrialized Democracies lock up less than 100K.

here's what they do that we don't.

They have strong anti-poverty programs.
They treat addiction as a medical issue, not a criminal one.
They don't let any yahoo who wants a gun have one.
They have programs for their mentally ill.

Meanwhile, we let the mentally ill self-medicate, eat out of garbage cans, and we act all surprised when one of them does something horrible with a gun.

Should have just shot the piece of shit.

Most violent crime is committed by a small percentage of people. Studies have shown this. If this population were permanently locked away you would say violent rates plummet even in big cities, but our injustice system keeps turning them back out on the streets over and over until they kill someone and then everyone acts outraged.

We don't have to live with this kind of crime. We choose to live with it.
No, the democrats who run the cities choose to inflict their creatures on the civilians because they are evil.

A police lieutennant I knew was talking to us once about safety awareness when we leave hospital and whatnot.. One of the people in our group asked about the homeless and aggressive panhandlers that were in our parking lot. I fully expected something along the lines of “We’re addressing that.” or “Its an issue we’re aware of.” Instead he said that the Criminal Justice system isn’t equipped to “clean up the streets” (his term) of homeless. Its not a crime to be homeless and it’s not a crime to ask for a dollar. He said that he could arrest people for crimianl trespassing which comes with a penalty of maybe a week in jail. They are usually not held that long due to overcrowding .

So it jibes with what you’re saying.

Yeah, buddy, the problem is execution is a costly and flawed process, which is why we only execute about 40 people a year.

with 18% of the population suffering some kind of mental illness, we really can't expect to keep ignoring the problem and getting good results.
So why are the loons on the streets and not in care like they should be? Liberal policies much??

Ridiculous.

You REALLY want to compare with Communist China; how many executions a year??

"China executes thousands of people annually, remaining the world's leading executioner, but the exact figures are a state secret, with estimates often placing the number in the thousands (1000s+) each year, far exceeding all other countries combined, though numbers fluctuate and have seen declines from historical peaks like 1983. Human rights groups like Amnesty International report global figures but exclude China's classified data, acknowledging China carries out more executions than the rest of the world combined. "
"

State secrecy

Due to state secrecy, Amnesty’s numbers do not include the thousands of people believed to have been executed in China, which remains the world’s lead executioner. Similarly, the organization was unable to put forward figures for North Korea and Viet Nam, countries believed to resort to executions extensively.

However, the limited number of official reports that did emerge from these countries sent clear messages to the public that crime or dissent would be punished by death, showing that the death penalty continued to be a tool in the state weaponry to maintain control and repress dissent.

In China, reports in state media were used to remind people that crimes such as drug trafficking and bribery would be harshly punished and result in execution, while North Korea published a new law that included the death penalty as possible punishment forthosewho did not use the native Korean language. Meanwhile, military authorities in Myanmar continued to impose death sentences in military-controlled courts, in secretive and grossly unfair proceedings."

Thou art a dolt.

Okay, let's look at that.

The main reason why we don't involuntarily incarcerate the mentally ill is because of a court decision called O'Connor v. Donaldson. While liberal advocacy groups brought it, it was ruled on by a mostly Republican appointed SCOTUS. Basicly, it held that if a mentally ill person is not an immediate danger to himself or others, he can't be held.

In practice, it resulted in most of the nation's mental hospitals being closed, because the states didn't really want to fund them or make the legal case that Stewbum McCrazypants was an immediate danger when he was off his meds.

It didn't help that part of the problem was that federal support for such mental health programs was slashed when Ronnie Ray-gun gave huge tax breaks to the rich.

I remember it pretty well. The neighborhood I lived in on the Southwest Side of Chicago was suddenly overrun with homeless people congregating around the local liquor store. Their families couldn't deal with them like the courts thought they would, and they were self-medicating with Mad Dog 20/20.

I wasn't talking about executions, dummy, I was talking about incarcerations. Sure, China executes more people than we do.

But it locks fewer of them up despite being a Communist dictatorship.

Why?

Because China only locks up people who need to be locked up. We lock up people because the Prison Industrial complex makes money on the deal.
