If you want to understand why the border encounter numbers are so high, you should take a look at these handy charts:

Let me explain what this means. We have the first chart showing an explosion in border encounters near the end of the Trump presidency after instituting Title 42. We have the second chart showing that around 60% of CBP arrests are people who have already entered illegally. And the third chart shows that CBP estimates it apprehended about 82.6% of people who tried to illegally enter in 2021.

What should we take away from that? One, our border is not remotely open. CBP actually exceeded its goal on interdiction effectiveness in the first year under Biden. Second, Title 42 is driving up the number of border encounters. And third, people are continuing to try and enter again after we expel them using Title 42, leading to increased recidivism. Why? Because under Title 42, they're being denied the opportunity to go through the asylum system.

Basically, the numbers are artificially inflated because of Title 42. If we ended Title 42, the numbers would drop fairly substantially. Now, would the numbers fall off a cliff? No. Migration is largely driven by EXTERNAL factors. The things driving migration right now are instability and economic issues in Central and South America (particularly, Venezuela and the Northern Triangle in Central America).

Now, you might ask why Biden hasn't sought to end Title 42. Guess what? He did.

You'll never guess what happened next? A Trump "judge" refused to let Biden end the policy Trump created, despite the fact that Biden sought to use the same procedure to end it that Trump used to create it.
Judge blocks Biden administration from lifting public health order used to quickly expel migrants

And here's the funny part, Title 42 is supposedly a COVID-mitigation policy. So keep in mind that all these Trump "judges" have been striking down Biden's COVID policies left and right, but the one COVID policy Biden tried to end on his own, they told him he MUST keep enforcing. It's calvinball. Partisan hacks in robes making political decisions.

So Trump "judges" are requiring Biden to continue to enforce a Trump policy that is inflating the border encounter and apprehension data in a major way.

But hey, at least Biden can choose how to best apply the resources he has at his disposal to enforce our immigration laws in the most efficient and effective manner, right? Wrong. Trump "judges" have also ruled that Biden doesn't have the power to set immigration enforcement priorities.
Court strikes down Biden immigration enforcement priorities

That's right. The people in charge of federal law enforcement are not allowed to tell the officers serving under them where to focus law enforcement efforts and resources. Why? Because some hack appointed by Trump said so.

I could go on and on all day about how ridiculous things are. But the truth of the matter is that presidents don't have much control over migration, and Biden has even less control over migration and the border than your average president because the clowns Trump put on the federal bench have seized control of large swaths of federal immigration policy from the Executive Branch we elected.

The Trumpies won't read this or understand it.

OP is so full of shit.....It's so bad that agents on our northern border are processing illegals on our southern border by their version of zoom in a vain effort to free-up agents to be able to do their patrol/interdiction duties on the southern border.

It's been that way since Tater took office and the illegal surge began. The BP had a good handle on things before then.

Don't let some jack-wagon like the OP try to tell you any fuckin' different.

Illegal alien invaders should simply be shot at the border. Just let their billions of bones keep piling up until a huge natural thousands of miles long and hundreds of feet high lead-ridden wall is formed.

I appreciate the fact that you're taking a close look at the situation, but it sounds like you're a Border Crisis Denier trying to cherry-pick a few numbers to back your theory.

I believe it's true that migration of people from one place to another, in general, is due to economic and instability issues. That's a no-brainer. The surge in illegal immigration into this country (which you rephrase as "migration") during Biden's administration is driven by Biden's policies. There are a number of documentaries that provide first-hand evidence for this by way of interviews with migrants. They all said that the reason they decided to try getting across now was that they knew Biden's policies would make it easier.

The fact that the volume of illegal immigrants has gone up tremendously is not "artificially inflated". The information you are presenting is misleading because it is all based on percentages, whereas the real issue is total volume:

FT_22.04.13_Title42_1-768x880.png

Title 42 simply gave the border agents another tool to use to turn them back instead of having to release them as might often happen under Title 8.

I agree Title 42 should be repealed because COVID-19 is no longer a threat the way we thought it was when it was enacted. But, because of the huge number of illegal immigrants, it needs to be replaced with something sensible. Why in God's name a congress and executive branch controlled by the same party for the past 2 years couldn't put together a reasonable reform package is beyond me. I guess they were too busy trying to persecute the mostly peaceful, unarmed, and patriotic American citizen protesters from Jan 6, most of whom did nothing more than simple trespass, to worry about protecting our borders.

You are very mistaken if you think all of these illegal immigrants are legitimate and well-intentioned honest asylum seekers. Some are, sure. But many are not nice people, trafficking drugs and human flesh, many are released from prisons in their country of origin. I live 2000 miles away from the southern border, and the crisis has created a dangerous situation in our biggest cities with a 5x increase in violent criminal activity, all of which is attributed to increased drug trafficking directly related. I won't even talk about the number of children and innocent people being trapped in human trafficking rings. A human tragedy any way you slice it. Let alone the burden and strain the extra 4 million people are putting on our communities and the jobs they are displacing by way of under-the-table and non-taxed labor they are performing.

Those Judges are doing us a huge favor by keeping Title 42 from being repealed. I don't know all the technical legal reasons they are using, but I'm glad they are.

What conservatives do understand about the border ‘issue’ is to use it as a partisan weapon – to use fearmongering and lies to advance white grievance politics and racist replacement theory.

There's more than one way to enter the US legally and illegal entry is a misdemeanor. You're ignorant.
No, LEGALLY is the only proper way to enter the country. There is no appropriate way to enter the country other than LEGALLY. If that means you can’t get in, or you have to wait 10 years, too fucking bad.

Illegal entry should be a capital offense, punishable without due process or trial by any American Citizen..

Both the Executive branch and Congress have been controlled by a single party since January 2021. That party has failed to address the issue with appropriate measures. In that regard, yes, it is partisan.

"white grievance politics and racist replacement theory" comes from you, and you alone. The issue being discussed is an international border issue and a national defense issue. It affects all races equally.

Only a fool would decide on inaction when they are threatened by circumstances that have clear solutions.

I say if people make it here they can stay, but the US government has to do it's part and build the damn wall and enforce it with force.

( Heck if they make it then, more power to the illegals, they really want to be here, dying if necessary)

There are different kinds of US visas. When someone is on US soil they are subject to US jurisdiction which means they are entitled to due process and a trial. You're ignorant.
