A 1.1 point lead for a Republican is very difficult for a Democrat to prevail. For a Democrat to win in the Electoral college, the Democrat need to win the popular vote by at least 3 points.

Hillary won the popular vote by about 2 points and lost the election. In 2020, Biden won both, winning the popular vote by some 4½ points.

That said, polls this early are utterly meaningless.

Not an excellent piece at all. Not surprising given it's on CNN. The Supreme Court isn't ruling on whether or not Trump was involved with an insurrection; it's going to determine if the 14th Amendment applies to Trump's run for the office of president.

A better angle for Congress to prevent Trump becoming president, should he win the election, comes on January 6th, 2025. On that day, Congress can object to electors from states Trump won on the premise he was involved in insurrection. All it takes is a simple majority in each chamber to not count a state's electors. Even more attainable should Democrats win control of both the House and Senate in November's election.

But even that may not be enough as that would only lead to the House picking the president where each state gets one vote; and it's possible Trump could still prevail.
