Last night, about 8pm Pacific, I made the mistake of watching CNN Headline News. They featured a story purported to demonstrate that President Bushs inaugural address had driven a wedge between America and its ally the UK. WTF? The story showed how America and the UK were at odds over the vision to everywhere promote freedom and democracy. As evidence that the theme of Bushs inaugural address runs counter to UK foreign policy, you would imagine that CNN interviewed Jack Straw, the current UK Foreign Minister. But then that would be in your OBJECTIVE imagination!! Instead, CNN interviewed Robin Cook, the profoundly obnoxious far-left ex-foreign minister who has been rabidly anti-Iraq-war since before the invasion. Did CNN give any background on the guy? No. Did they twist the reporting to make it seem that Cooks was the prevailing view in the UK? Yes. Certainly most people tuned to CNN last night did not know the background of far-left, socialist, anti-Bush, resign-from-the-Labor-Government-in-protest-of-Iraq, political-fringe-dancer, Robin Cook. Instead, last nights CNN viewers came away with the impression that Bush had driven our UK ally away from America with his extremist inaugural address. News or propaganda?
