Far left freak or not, Mamdani has far more charisma than any Chinese official. The Chinese bureaucrats are rigid and pragmatic. Mamdani is an inspired loon albeit with a lot of character. Then again, so was Stalin. And so was Hitler. But Chinese? No.

The grocery stores available to the common people stocked virtually nothing. The ones restricted to the party faithful were stocked with imported food and goods.
