China remains a threat to Taiwan - Trump is trying to prepare but the disloyal democrats are not cooperating

LOL, how would they maintain air and sea supremacy?

Most of their military hardware is better than 20 years ago but still decades behind the west.

Not really.

The Chengdu J-20 is probably on par with the F-35

Here, let me help you out.

I'm sorry, what's the American Interest here? "Let's protect this island that has destroyed thousands of American Manufacturing jobs"

Most of the wars we've gotten into in my lifetime is because we've been so arrogant to believe we know what's best for other countries - Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan.

Friendly governments like Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and The Philippines deserve American support against China, and that is in our interest.

Of course you believe information published by the PRC.......

You mean other than making our computer chips?

Clearly you hate them because they rejected communism and won’t bow down to Xi, who you adore no doubt.
The US abandoning Democracies across the world seems to be in vogue these days.

Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines are nations we recognize as nations.

We recognize Taiwan as part of China

Probably because they call themselves 'Republic of China", speak Mandarin, and write in Hanzi.

China isn't a threat to those other countries. They are making too much money trading off of them.

Which is why they aren't going to be nearly as keen for WWIII as you are.

What a cop-out.

China is selling these arms to other countries, darned straight they are going to be upfront about the capabilities.

You think with all the smart engineers the Chinese have, they aren't building top-of-the-line stuff?

Like the Soviets they are adept at lying to themselves and others, and you buy it.

And yet we still do business with them and have relations with them, all under law.

You are the one PRC cheerleading, slappy.

You are far too warped by TDS to formed coherent opinion

The “nuance” is simple

Either the US and Japan defend Taiwan ir we dont

Its as simple as that
It’s not that simple genius. The U.S. deliberately keeps its stance a vague.
  • It doesn’t promise to defend Taiwan
  • But it also doesn’t rule it out
  • And it strongly warns China not to use force
This ambiguity is meant to deter China from invading and deter Taiwan from declaring independence.

It’s very nuanced.

No, I cheerlead common sense.

Common sense is that a war over Taiwan would at best wreck the world economy, and at worst lead to World War III.

Now, if China were like Nazi Germany or Imperial Japan, and making claims on the whole of Asia, you might have a point.

But quite the contrary.

China hasn't annexed Outer Mongolia, a place that was once part of the Qing Empire.

Inner Mongolia (as well as Tibet, Xinjiang, and other regions) are given autonomy in their own regions.

China hasn't intervened in Myanmar, which would allow them to expand their territory/influence.

Taiwan is a sticking point for China. They are willing to tolerate it, but only for so long.

Well, we'd kill millions of people, but hardly "Game over".

Frankly, what you are admitting is the only way to "win" would be to escalate an internal Chinese dispute into World War III.

Taiwan isn't worth World War III.
Oh yes it is. If China goes unchallenged, the Philippines is next then onward to incursion into Australia and Japan's EEZ.

Let me give you another reality. China has no aerial combat experience. China tends to brag how great their military hardwares are until Israel completely annihilated Chinese made air defense system while attacking Iran.

How can we have a defense agreement with a country we don't recognize?

Except they really haven't.
They have

The Kuomintang claims that Taiwan is part of china and that they, the Nationalists, the rightful rulers of the whole country

But that idea is solidly rejected by the voters

My guess is that if communist china had free elections the people would throw the communists out
