When trump enacted tariffs on China in his first presidency, they simply routed the products intended for delivery to the US through other countries that weren't covered by the tariffs for what they called final assembly. Anything done to the products in the third countries is considered final assembly, even minor adjustments, and is an easy way to bypass tariffs. Seems trump would have figured out what was happening the first time he tried it, but he's really not that smart.

why am I not surprised you would side with china screwing us,,

''Ends justify the means'' is the communist/ facist only moral code. Not a lot of Judeo/ Christian ethics in their governments.
One should not be surprised at their behaviour.

I agree that the chinese will try to avoid the tariffs by trans shipping through 3rd countries

But that can be identified and dealt with

In fact, doing do involves extra cost for the commies that comes out of china’s end of the deal

It’s not about what China does, it’s what American companies do.

But yes, we need to make sure other countries don’t side step tariffs by third party shipping/assembly.

I never said I was smart. I am smart enough to know the country of final assembly is the one effected by tariffs. China rerouting their exports through a third country that isn't facing tariffs for what they designate as final assembly effectively lets China bypass the tariffs. They already did that with bicycles.

You could be right. I'm just not sure how we could deal with it short of putting tariffs on the third party countries.

American companies will pass the added expense along to the customer.

The world, including our (former) allies, can see that America is now about building fences, both physical and financial. So they'll just take the obvious route and start making new relationships among themselves.

Trump's "you need us more than we need you, so nyah nyah nyah" foreign policy may work for a while while the other countries create the new relationships, but it won't work forever. I just hope we never need anything from them, such as security intelligence.

Even if true, that still adds to their cost to mfg, Simp.
