China doesn't care about tariffs and will easily sidestep them.

When trump enacted tariffs on China in his first presidency, they simply routed the products intended for delivery to the US through other countries that weren't covered by the tariffs for what they called final assembly. Anything done to the products in the third countries is considered final assembly, even minor adjustments, and is an easy way to bypass tariffs. Seems trump would have figured out what was happening the first time he tried it, but he's really not that smart.

We'd never notice that.

DURR

When Trump enacted tariffs on China the first time, dems squealed like stuck pigs. The same arguments- the tariffs would be paid by consumers and the only effect was higher prices.

But it didn't happen. The tariffs were mostly split between the exporter and the importer. CPI was stable- including autos which were going to be hit especially hard with the steel and aluminum tariffs.

When Biden kept all the tariffs and even added to them, dems were silent. Not one peep.

Now Trump is back and talking about tariffs, and whadya know? The dems are back to their squawling and bawling... :icon_rolleyes:

Plenty of ways around tariffs. The Chinese could A) lower the RMB or B) give subsidies to companies to make the products cheaper.

Trump said he wanted to devalue the dollar to be able to deal with the same problem of countries putting revenge tariffs in place. But he does that and the dollar loses its status as the world's currency.

Neither of those actions are a way "around tariffs".

These Leftists lost the argument/debate during the last Trump administration. Now they come back, and recycle the same crapola because.....they have absolutely NOTHING to talk about, so again, they PROJECT!

We all know that the CHARMING AND DELIGHTFUL Democratic, Leftist party......is supposed to be full of college EDUMACATED people. How many of these people sound REMOTELY intelligent to any of you!

These CLOWN SHOW LEFTISTS, believe because they went to college for gender studies, maybe art, music, Lefty Liberal Arts, and their profs told them how SMART they were, lololol. So they come on here, go there, and as long as they can POST without doing it in person because they are all WEAK....they tell you how DUMB you are, along with how BRILLIANT they are!

Tell these arrogant a*es, how much you believe their nonsensical bullsh*, and if they behave like the little dweebs they really are while hiding under their mommy and daddy's bed, we may still be able to save their worthless a**es, even as they kick and scream fighting us all the way to the finish line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They really are PATHETIC, and deserve to be laughed off this board.

I’m starting to think tariffs won’t happen, because of Musk’s business ties with China. He needs every dollar, therefore cheap visa workers, tax cuts, deregulation and federal subsidies are the order of the the day.

Musk doesn’t want to bother with tariffs. They lose him money in administration costs. He just wants to import EVs from China. Those charging stations don’t build themselves, your tax dollars will. When was the last time Trump said, “Drill, baby, drill”?

No shit. But they can also make the products here, for cheaper. That’s the real goal.
I suppose they could if they had existing factories and a trained workforce. Those things don't magically appear over night.

American workers are going to make less than Chinese workers? That’s the only way it’s possible without going the CCP’s subsidy route.

Musk and tariffs are the shiny objects that the media is fixating on because they have nothing else to talk about.

The incoming administration is not telegraphing anything from Mar-A-Lago. No clear plans at least until the election is certified, and possibly not until after the inauguration.

The media needs to drum up stories, so either a Trump tweet or Musk. Go ahead and pick one- tomorrow it will be the other one...

Correct, it will take time. There is no overnight solution.

Sure, Dimtard. China sells over 450 billion a year to America. They can afford to throw that away. :(

The world, including our (former) allies, can see that America is now about building fences, both physical and financial. So they'll just take the obvious route and start making new relationships among themselves.

Trump's "you need us more than we need you, so nyah nyah nyah" foreign policy may work for a while while the other countries create the new relationships, but it won't work forever. I just hope we never need anything from them, such as security intelligence.

Right! We should just stick with giving all those countries money for nothing decade after decade.

We've been used as a doormat.

They just pissed they cant fuck us anymore.

Time for them to take care of their own back yard in Europe

''Ends justify the means'' is the communist/ facist only moral code. Not a lot of Judeo/ Christian ethics in their governments.
One should not be surprised at their behaviour.
Actually, it was also the translation (original is Latin) of George Washington's family motto.

This is why Trump needs to tariff the entire world the same percentage they're tariffing china. Problem solved
