The current iteration of the POT is comprised of essential pillars in no particular order. Corporatists, libertarians, and nativists. Two of those pillars are now in tension with each other.

On one side you have the corporatists represented by our friend Elon. The guy who sees a need for educated foreign workers in order for his businesses to succeed, and thus supports the H1B visa program. Someone who may not have endeared himself to blue collar MAGAists when he called American workers the "R" word, retards. Joined by fellow budget slasher Vivek, who said American culture celebrates prom queens over the math whiz. (Paradoxical because we just elected a reality TV show star who spends two hours a day in the makeup room)

On the other side are the nativists represented by a number of folks with maybe the most prominent media figure being Steve Bannon. The thuggish, nihilist slob who along with Steve Miller wants to keep the brown people out of the country no matter if they're engineers or not. This wing of the party animates The Following most of all.

For his part, trump has sided with Musk, for now, but what tomorrow holds is never certain with him. He's been on both sides of the argument as is typical for someone who we will generously describe as open minded. The not so generous description would be someone for whom policy positions are viewed as chances to be opportunistic. He believes what he thinks he needs to believe for the sake of expediency.

In short, the greedy are pitted against the haters while the libertarians just want to do anything they feel like doing without government interference. Let the show begin.

How would things be going for prez elect Y if two of his most important advisers, both foreigners, had insulted American workers? I guess if a friend of your cult leader calls you a retard he gets a pass.

I think most rational humans, including Republicans, can understand the difference between a beneficial H1-B immigration program, and the abuse of the H1-B immigration program.

Everyone talks about the abuses, but the program is both logical and beneficial when used as required by law. The only time you can hire a foreigner is when there are no Americans available with the required skills. THOSE foreigners make America a better place for everyone. Foreigners with no skills, no assets, and no interest in integrating to our culture are not beneficial, even though the Democrats have welcomed tens of millions of such worthless wretches into our midst.

I think the current kerfuffle is the bleating of Democrats who HOPE that this issue will divide Republicans. It won't.
