China and Korea

Just as was always obvious, the Korean situation awaited serious Chinese participation. What might have been achieved by others is now being undertaken by China, to their credit and to the embarrassment of powers that should have handled things better.
Let us hope this surprise, similar to the end of the 'cold war', leads to better results.

American diplomacy needs to respond carefully and seriously.

Being always prepared for war made the 'West' unprepared for peace when Gorbachev did the right thing. A wonderful opportunity was lost in that period, and now we have a new, dangerous competition with Russia. Things need to be done differently this time.
