Allende was a communist and started slow in order to get elected by only 40% of the population. He would have gotten worse in time.

U.S. officials also believed that Allende was supporting revolutionary activities in Latin America and viewed him as a significant threat to hemispheric security and U.S. economic interests in Chile.

Well, Chile wasn't our country to begin with. We had no business dealing in their politics but since "our" corporations are doing business there, we do interfere. We go to war too often to protect private entities and this is why we have enemies on all fronts. If you're an ordinary American in trouble in a foreign land, good luck. When you hear our military is there to protect "our interests," it's always a private company trying to do business in a foreign country where it wouldn't be safe without taxpayer provided U.S. Military. If some of our military guys get killed in the process, they died protecting America we're told. Wrong.

Well this is one way to deal with the Marxist threat in your nation, but I'm not sure in our nation. The US military has become way too liberal. it could go opposite way.I think we need a militarized police just in case. Rome burns and Obama golfs. What does he know that we do not? Will he use Ferguson as a way to disarm state police forces in order to impose rule of Marxist in national military? Will he leave office in 2016 if a Republican wins? His administration has no rule of law. We have seen that.

Have you ever heard of the Domino Theory? While valid when it comes to Chile IMO, It was greatly believed in during the 70's and 80's and for good reason. Chile is a far more capable country than many South American countries and could have wreaked havoc throughout the region with an opportunistic and aggressive leader like Allende. His ideology and success alone could have gone far. It is infinitely better we did not find out the results of not getting rid of him.
