I looked at it back when I was shopping around. I went with a fund with low fees. I forget the exact numbers, but you are talking small gains over time, small increases in fees can have tremendous impact when they are hitting constantly over a working career.


You do NOT want to mess with one of the few viable ways for the middle class or working poor to build real wealth, not if you have ANY concern for the well being of people.


Seriously, you need to play with a retirement calculator and just move the percentage growth down a point or two, to reflect your tax on trades.

It isnt where anyone wants to be but it is a lot more dignified than a handout. If you pay in you have a right to take out.
The issue that you guys cant get your heads round is that it is not "free". Most folk pay in. You focus on a minority who game the system. Well that will always happen but it is a small price to pay for having a compassionate and civilised society.

When one person gets millions from the government and the other gets enough to eat, the one who gets millions indeed should pay more in taxes.

Charity is people, on their own, helping other people, giving freely of their own time and money, without the threat of violence to take the money from some, to give it to others, and it actually is far more efficient and less wasteful of resources since the people who give the money are doing it freely, and target the money to those who actually need it....... you don't understand that which is why you think the way you do.....

Actually, charities are even more inefficient than the government.

In a welfare state, most will pay in indefinitely and some will be entitled indefinitely.

When being supported by others goes from being charity to an entitlement, there ceases to be any impetus to restrict it to the times when we are struggling.

Charity has always come with strings. If you pray the right prayers, we feed you. Attend our meetings and we feed you.

Entitlements, by definition, come with no strings.

You have a point there.

So you have "welfare" for poor people, and they are looked down upon if they get Medicaid, Section 8, Food Stamps or TANF. Those lazy welfare people. Oh, wait, they have jobs that only pay minimum wage. Well, those lazy welfare people not getting good jobs.

Meanwhile, you have middle class entitlements like Social Security, Medicare, Veteran's Benefits and Unemployment Insurance, which goes to mostly middle class white people. It can also be abused in various ways... and are. But we are fine with that because we've "earned" it.

The government takes money out of your earnings to pay for the crappy social security return that they give you...you aren't helping your case... Veterans give time out of their lives in service for their benefits....and they get crappy healthcare from the government.....you aren't helping your case....
