CEO of United Healthcare Killed by Gunman

As of 2024, 33.8 million people are enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans, which is about 55% of the Medicare population

Most of those extra's have limited providers and many have very limited benefits.
And it’s also cheaper to go that route. So people pick Medicare Advantage to save money, and then they complain that it doesn’t cover everything?

I have UHC as my supplemental, and have since I turned 65, and they’ve been excellent.

So, you get to decide why you get sick? I wish I had known that when I had to wait 2 and a half years to get a liver transplant. I should have just decided not to get sick.
Yeah man, round here if it's an emergency, there's really no charge, and no wait time. Besides, in the US you just wouldn't be able to afford the liver transplant, so it's a moot point. Die waiting, or go bankrupt and die in a homeless shelter.

I had my liver transplant almost 20 months ago. My BC/BS Anthem insurance has paid out over $3 million for my care. My wife paid for it through her employer. I was actually on COBRA coverage, if you know what that means.

It's not a moot point by any stretch.

BTW, where is "round here"?

Yeah, so the costs involved literally would have bankrupted you if it wasn't for your wife's employer provided healthcare.

And an hour before I found out that the UHC CEO was murdered, UHC denied coverage for medication that I need to treat, and cure, an infection in my esophagus that is causing it to constrict and food to get impacted.

No. I would have died. I almost died one while waiting due to a semi-related illness.

My current transplant doctor would be a good example of socialized medicine as he works for the Veteran's Administration. The only way they can afford him is that he does private practice at Vanderbilt University also. The VA could never pay him enough for his level of talent. That is why the VA has such a bad reputation as the doctors get paid by the government, just like in countries like Canada, and other European countries.

I have socialized medicine now only because I am a Gulf war veteran. I pay copayments for my medicines and that is the only money I pay out of pocket. I soon have to start Medicare and will be paying premiums and for supplemental insurance for that. More socialized Medicine at an even higher cost. That's why it sucks so badly.

Stay away from UHC would be my advice to everyone. I had it once and it was OK, but I never really got sick. I feel sorry for your troubles, believe me.

Doctors still make big money in Europe. My uncle was a doctor until maybe six or seven years ago. Hell, even as a kid you could tell he was making top dollar. I dunno the exact intricacies of how healthcare in Europe works vs US, but obviously they're doing something right. Granted, I think Europeans are a bit healthier. Except with cigarettes. Europeans smoke a hell of a lot more.

That's why my former gastroenterologist went to medical school in England, a surgeon I had went to school in Italy, my cardiologist was Japanese, and my oncologist and endocrinologist went to school in school in India. The doctor who performed my transplant is from Pakistan. Foreign countries pay nowhere near as well as the US does. If they did, why are they here now?

Because the constitution gives the right to bear arms, not mortgages.

Then why have background checks at all? If you want to claim that the Militia Amendment is a right to own a gun, then a drug addicted, convicted felon should be able to walk in a gun store, plop down the money he got robbing an old lady, and say "Give me a gun, Sucker!"

Try again in a week when they just might change their tune after Thompson was murdered.

The anesthesia article I posted earlier has been reversed this afternoon.

I have also had 3 referrals this afternoon on advantage plans that have watched tv all day yesterday and this morning that want to get off UHC.

This company may want to rethink this decision after the UHC events.

Been reversed I hear this afternoon.

Supplements are mostly standard across companies no difference in coverages in the U.S.

Suddenly compassion comes to the HC industry.

They're closing in on the killer, probably will have him by morning.

Well, because the law states that felons can't own guns. I won't say whether I agree with it, but it answers your question.

The problem is how we define "felony." Not all felons are violent, not all are drug addicted, not all are pedophiles. I mean, someone who writes a bad check loses their gun rights? That's nuts. I don't have problems with violent felons losing gun rights. But non-violent ones, no. To me, that's not right. What makes something a felony has nothing to do with its level of violence or even if there is a victim or not. It's simply defined as a crime where you can be sentenced to jail for more than 1 calendar year. If you can be sentenced to 366 days in jail for that crime, it's a felony.

A teen prankster who calls in a threat to a school, where they know who it is and that he's screwing around being stupid, felony. Loses gun rights for the rest of his life. I mean, that's nuts. My dad said his friends brought their deer rifles to school on Friday and left them in their trucks because after school they were going straight to the woods. Even had their camo on the seat of their truck, too. Nobody was charged with any crimes for that, but now, it's a felony.

When you criminalize everything, you make criminals out of everyone.

Nuts, isn't it?
