Cannot ever be a state.... Washington DC

Hey fine, we'll split WA and OR in half and CA into 3 states adding 4 new red states and 8 senators. :muahaha:
You gotta ask. Will D.C. admitted as a state open the flood gates to new states all over the place?

Residents of those states can be represented by Senators and Congressmen. Residents of DC cannot

DC residents pay more Federal Taxes than 22 other states.
Taxation without representation

the constution says so.

But the opinion is true. The constitution prohibits our capitol from being in a state.

The capitol doesn't have to be in the new state. The boundaries for that state can be drawn to exclude the capitol.

Problem solved.

Very true
We have already redefined the boundaries before.

Or just give the parts of DC with people living in them back to Virginia and Maryland.

All they have to do is draw the boundaries of the state around the area of the capitol. The capitol won't be in a state.
If they did thar--and that is a BIG if--I believe the area would revert to the state which originally held the land.

I don’t think any of DC is in Virginia
That part was already given back.

We could make DC a Congressional District and allow them their own Congressman.
We could also allow them to vote for Maryland Senators who would represent them in the Senate

Again... It's 68.34 mi²... That is the mega rich that live there... You want to give them MORE power? As a democrat... That's what you are suggesting?

Our country was built on the idea that those who are paying taxes should have the right to vote for those who designate the taxes.

Where in the Constitution does it say that D.C. CAN'T be a state?

Well, America’s Founding Fathers decided, when they wrote the Constitution, that it was imperative that the center of government was not in a state. In America’s early post-Revolution days, it would see several different temporary centers of government, all of them northern cities like Philadelphia and New York. While drafting the Constitution in 1787, the Founding Fathers decided that the new nation should have a permanent capital. But they were reluctant to give that much power to one single state.

So they wrote in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution that “[The Congress shall have Power] To exercise exclusive Legislation…over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may…become the Seat of the Government of the United States.” The article also stated that this 100-mile district would come from land ceded by the states so that the new seat of government would be independent of any state. Check out more facts about U.S. history you didn’t learn in school.

They do have the right to vote. Just not in DC. I don't believe DC was ever really meant to be someplace to live... Only for government to work.
