Zone1 Is Jimmy Kimmel a victim of a free speech crackdown ?

That doesnt really happen. Why do you frame things in a lie ?
Yes it does, the UK is notorious for arresting people over speech.

Hearing from a Brit lecturing us on our free speech rights, when they have less is pretty amusing.

You are probably more intelligent than that. Trumps jihad against academia and the law makes this part of a sustained attack on free speech.
When network affiliates let the network know that they won't carry a particular program because of stupid things the host is saying, the network has to react or stands to lose a lot of money. At least they're not coordinating with the government to suppress speech inconvenient to the regime like has been done.

Trump has a whole justice department working on his personal beefs. He even sacked some poor ****** who couldnt find a crime. He is dictator for more than a day.

They are arrested for things like calling for hotels to be set fire. That should be an offence anywhere,

So the comic said hotels should be set on fire? Really?

So you want me to believe, there were thousands and thousands of people a year wanting hotels to burn?

No free speech does not mean freedom from consequences Kimmel never lost his first amendment rights and he was within his rights to say what he did. The First Amendment however does not protect you from blowback or consequences if you say something vile, sick, disgusting or just bat shit crazy people should remember just because you have the right to say something doesn’t mean you should.

But private entities face threats from the govt. Thats what happened here.

Some did. They are dangerous people and should be caged.

Fun fact... Kimmel's show is filmed inside of a building that was a Masonic Temple on Hollywood Blvd.... Designed by the same man who designed LA City Hall and the Griffith Park Observatory... John C Austin...

Like I said, you don’t tolerate free speech in Britian and have no grounds to criticize ours.

The Biden administration nor the Trump administration were right in supressing any free speech, and in both instances I spoke out against it. That is not an Amendment we could ever compromise on.

There are limits on free speech wherever you live. Calling for the death of people in hotels is not acceptable. If you want to use that language you lose your rights that a civilised society grants you.

In America you can’t call fire in a theater, but you can say vaccines are unsafe and very disgusting racial slurs, but you can’t tell that 30 arrests a day average is because people are threatening to burn down a hospital. Was that what the comedian was arrested for to? I’d be willing to bet that no more than 1 a month threatens a hospital, you are now just being silly.

You have a huge free speech problem there, worse than here.

Our free speech is not under threat from a mafia don.

Because you really don’t have free speech, even your comedians get arrested for being offensive, Kimmel was offensive and is still on the air, the police never even tried to arrest him. You have no free speech.

Our free speech has been attacked by several presidents through the last couple hundred years, but the Constitution always wins.

I’m not Irish, and I have nothing to do with Britain so stick the insult.

The problem with the government deciding what is hate and what is not is the power is the government and one day your speech maybe decided as hate by a government that doesn’t like you because of your politics. That is my point. Government should never make that decision.

It looks like it to me. You may disagree with him but being distasteful should not be illegal.

I saw a small clip of what got him banned and it seemed reasonable enough. The right has gone into overdrive on this issue with several leading members of the regime making unwise comments.

The killer has not even gone on trial yet.

It isnt the job of govt to stifle debate. That used to be an american belief but now it doesnt seem to be a thing.

It started with the banning of the AP and he got away with that. America needs an enshrined right to free speech not just approved speech.

What he said was wildly inappropriate. I think he’s lucky he only got a 3 or 4 night suspension.

I think his time at ABC is on life support though.

At least in the UK there are no mass kidnappings by the friendly neighbourhood ICE/Gestapo at the moment, but give it time if Farage ever became the Fuhrer of the UK you would.

He should have opened up. Too timid.
And he would have been permanently removed. Of course, that would probably be preferable to the TV market, which is what got him canned in the first place.
