Can that record be broken or is 2 miles about the limit?
You've given this some thought. Can that record be broken or is 2 miles about the limit?
In theory, if you can see it you can hit it.
1. pick out a doorway or window that the target is often seen at.
2. Wait for a thunderstorm or battle so other sounds will mask your shots.
3. zero in on that doorway or window (walk the shots in if you have to) and then wait for the target to show himself.
4. Ventilate appropriately.
Nice shot eh? Party on Canadian Army.A Canadian soldier in Iraq has killed an ISIS militant from more than two miles away, shattering the world record for a confirmed sniper kill in military history.
According to Toronto’s Globe and Mail newspaper, the gun specialist from the elite Joint Task Force 2 achieved the feat with a shot from a high-rise during an operation within the past 30 days.
“The shot in question actually disrupted a Daesh [Islamic State] attack on Iraqi security forces,” a military source — who requested anonymity because the unit’s operations are classified — told the paper. “Instead of dropping a bomb that could potentially kill civilians in the area, it is a very precise application of force and because it was so far way, the bad guys didn’t have a clue what was happening.”
The 3,450-meter shot, which took about 10 seconds to reach its target, was independently verified by a video camera and other data, the source said.
The prior record was held by a British sniper, Craig Harrison, who in 2009 shot a Taliban gunner from 2,475 meters, or about a mile and a half, away during an operation in Afghanistan.

Holy crap!
Sound travels about one mile in five seconds on the ground, so ten seconds for the sound to reach the target is about right. I think the reporter is confused about the speed of the bullet and the speed of the sound over the target.I don't know about the flight time but the sound heard at the target would have come after the bullet got there. How the fuck did he hit someone with a TEN SECOND FLIGHT TIME? Was the target taking a fucking NAP?!!
Yes, the sky is literally the limit. I foresee "smart bullets" being launched from drones and finding a target's head from dozens of miles away within the next decade or two.Can that record be broken or is 2 miles about the limit?

How about rocket launched miniature missiles?
A one inch diameter tube that launches a 16 inch long missile that seeks out a facial ID and hits with a grenade like force over many miles?
MUWAHAHAHAHAHA! ! ! ! !

nope
it is whole different breed of arms that can have a bullet travel "dozens" of miles
