California Burning

mr. boe got back from the store with a big air purifier for our great room. The air quality outside is 236 (purple very unhealthy according to airnow.gov). Last night I realized that the flue in the fireplace was open, which was making our internal air quality pretty bad. The air purifier has a monitor - it says 87, which is yellow moderate.

I really hope that this is not our new normal.

We also need to remember that all people should come together in these times. No one gave a damn about your politics only that you were there to help.

What I thought was fog was fucking smoke. Went running and got dizzy so I had to stop and go back in the house.

This is like the Big Smog of London in 1952, only it is lasting longer.

Our Air Quality is now at 256. And it's likely going to get worse.

I hope they fry PG&E and make sure they cant pass the cost onto the customers.

I don't agree that PG&E is to blame. The Feds own over half of the land in the state and have not properly managed it. Years of neglect (i.e., not thinning trees nor removing dead ones, not clearing brush, cancelling crazing rights on public land) combined with Jerry cancelling his father's water project have led to this nightmare. There is so much fuel built up, that something minor can explode into a conflagration.

And then we have the utterly corrupt misallocation of state resources to nonsense like the train to nowhere and obscene pensions for overpaid do nothing public employee union members. What a waste.

Fuel only becomes fuel if you light it. PG&E's faulty equipment may be the blame. However it looks like they are going to get off.

California throws lifeline to PG&E over potential Camp Fire liability

"In an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, Picker said his agency will soon implement a provision in a new state law that makes it easier for utilities to pass costs for past wildfires to their customers."

Yes, I know that there are people with an agenda to blame the fires on a corporate deep pocket. There are a multiple causes of fire, natural and man made. Piling up big areas of highly flammable fuel over decades and then sitting around waiting for "lightening" to strike is malignantly incompetent.

Yeah but its also malignantly incompetent to not fix your faulty equipment in such an environment. Regardless of who is at fault or who shares in the blame we get to pay more to cover it.

I'm on the way back from the gym listening to the radio tuned to a local station. The woman cohost lives in Malibu and her husband works for local channel 2.

The state ordered the water to fight the fires up in the hills and canyons diverted to Pepperdine and make sure it didn't burn.

How many missing? How many dead? It was a calculated loss suckah.

Trees and power lines have an intimate relationship, though it was seriously put in jeopardy during 2018, according to these dubious lines: 'A bill approved last September....The bill mitigates liability for fires in 2017 and others starting in 2019, but made no provision for fires this year.' This could be further evidence that Trump is correct, though why would PG&E be unaware of this mitigation gap? Who would benefit?

90% of these fires can be prevented with some simple, and common sense land management skills.

I know that does not fit the "blame Trump for everything' narrative, but this face and debate predate Trump being President.

Mismanagement of the States resources has cost the taxpayers of California over a trillion dollars in the past few decades and will continue to cost them that, and more human lives until they wake up.

Monsters? They reside in the CA legislature.
Ever experienced a Santa Ana?
Yes.

Do you know what three things a fire needs?

It's very telling to see who is spewing hatred at the fire victims.

I've shed tears for people who's names i did not even know at fires

Maybe one has to experience it , dunno

It's not pretty

But the haters , it's any excuse, they just want to hate , how sad is that?

Someday ,somewhere, somehow, they'll get themselves ito something they can't get themselves out of , then let's see how much they hate their fellow man

Correct.

I don't see Santa Anna winds in that mix, do you?

The state of California can prevent 90% of these fires by eliminating which part of the triangle?

Clearly, they cannot remove oxygen for the entire state. Nor can they control the heat (which really means the ignition source), so that leaves what?

For extra credit, what does the word 'management' mean?

You wish to know who the real haters are?

It is those who refuse to take action when it has been pointed out to them for over three decades.

The State has been told to manage their forests and dry lands for AT LEAST that long. Each and every year, they go throughout of control fires because the REFUSE to do so.

I shed tears for these people and all people who suffer from a preventable tragedy like this one. What is so very wrong about defending California and their mismanagement is that preventing this kind of tragedy doesn't even take away anyone else's rights. Its just dead wood that can be cleared away.

I hate it for them, but when you will not allow the under brush to be cleared from your forest because you believe in climate change. It's hard to feel sorry for them. Hopefully the will learn their lesson this time.

Nope, they will never learn, vote for their liberal gov again, and the same shit will happen, again, and again, and again. It is like Groundhog day on steroids, but with wildfires instead of snow...Go figure.

It seems PG&E is culpable, once again, as well as The Congress which has decided funding war and not funding domestic needs is their agenda. Your comment is mindful of Groundhog day, echoing the same bullshit which spews from the foul gullet of Trump and his fellow travelers.

For the Record:

"In terms of which entity manages the forests in California, the federal government, manages more land than the state of California. The federal government manages 57 percent of the forests in California, according to the Legislative Analyst's Office. The state manages 2 percent. Private owners are responsible for 39 percent."

How Forests Are Owned, Used, and Managed in California 33 Million Acres of Forestland in California Owned by Combination of Entities. As shown in Figure 2, close to 60 percent (nearly 19 million acres) of forestlands in California are owned by the federal government, including by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and National Park Service. Private nonindustrial entities own about one-quarter (8 million acres) acres of forestland. These include families, individuals, conservation and natural resource organizations, and Native American tribes. Industrial owners—primarily timber companies— own 14 percent (4.5 million acres) of forestland. State and local governments own a comparatively small share—only 3 percent (1 million acres) combined.

Majority of California's forests managed by feds; scientist says mismanagement isn't to blame

Once again Trump's comments are intended to mislead the public, and members of the USMB are complicit in this Damn Lie.

See my post #157 and stop being a damn liar.

California? With all those liberal wealthy environmentalists pushing laws to be more earth friendly...THEY are the ones being burnt out of house and hearth? It is a complicated issue, after all.
