Overturning Roe isn't as big a deal as people make it out to be.

If it is overturned, the issue goes to the states.

Many will make it legal. So women will have access to post-fuck birth control.

In states where it is not liked, they have already hemmed it in on many fronts. Look at Texas.

Agree to a great extent with you analysis on Roe v Wade and the court. Agree in principle Supreme Court is not supposed to be a partisan org, but that does not stop Presidents and their supporting parties from trying to stack it to be. It could become a partisan org.
It is obvious, the gravity of the position bears on it's members and they make decisions under it's weight. We used to think the gravity of the position of President of the United States was a tempering/stabilizing influence on the person in that office. That is not necessarily so anymore, is it? Could be the same for the Supreme Court.

The Court, as many experts have pointed out, listens to the American people.

For example, it approved segregation in the South because that was the zeitgeist of the time.
For example, it finally legalized gay relations because of the zeitgeist of the time.

"Roe" will never be overturned, for the Court realizes that to do so would set off a backlash that would not be good for the Court.

No doubt that EXPANDING the court would be a NAKED political move by either tribe. That's "go time" for knocking back the extremists in either party...

But in GENERAL -- Justices GET more "liberal" the longer they serve.. And a lot of "conservative" appointments recently are PRETTY NEUTRAL on their bench. Only remaining conservative outliers are Thomas and Alito.. Interesting graph from the Wiki...

If you look at the chart in my post above.. Most justices go left the longer they serve with few exceptions.. Also -- the ones PREDISPOSED to BE LEFT (sotomayor, ginsberg, etc) have gone DEEP left over the past decade or so.. While all the conservatives just hang out around "neutral" ratings or somewhat above neutral...

I think this is a reflection of the GROWTH of govt.. It's the "quickening" of loss of Constitutional restrictions.. Ya know?? The "slippery slope"?? As soon as you make SC precedent for ANY increased "govt right" -- The congress will TAKE ADVANTAGE of that and PUSH the edge AGAIN.. Push enough times and the "slope is now greased"...

So the Sup Ct is faced with more precedents CEDING power to govt all the time.. And that makes the ENTIRE COURT "go left" to casual observers.. THAT problem isn't the nine members of the SupCt.. THAT problem is the parts of Congress -- LEFT AND RIGHT -- that love themselves some more govt power....

Congress can TAKE BACK the Constitutional restrictions on Govt growth and power.. The Sup Ct just reacts to the laws that Congress makes..
