Burn! Alvin Bragg Schools Jim Jordan on Crime Stats! Let's talk about crime in Ohio cities compared to NYC, Jimmy

they go on and on about what a lost cause San Francisco and Chicago are and how biden is totally incompetent and corrupt and they skip 90% of the news and the 10% they do report is spun out of all resemblance to reality. And you end up believing in election fraud vaccine fraud global warming fraud Etcetera Etcetera You must be crazy. Today Fox ignored the two black politicians in Tennessee who they had to take back again and how far of an overreach that is. Corporate news you think is Democratic never mentions the GOP giveaway to the rich et cetera et cetera. See I watch all news like a good citizen so I know how screwed up Yours is and you are....
I'm glad you got that off your chest, whatever it was . . .

In a heated debate between Alvin Bragg, a district attorney from New York City, and Jim Jordan, a Republican representative from Ohio, the former took the latter to task for his criticism of NYC's crime rates. In a perfect retort, Bragg cited the crime statistics of Ohio cities which far outstrip New York City's - a point that clearly seemed to catch Jordan off guard. It was truly a battle of wits with Bragg as the undeniable victor.

Columbus, which has a population of approximately 907,000 people, closed out 2022 with 140 murders, according to The Columbus Dispatch, or 15.4 murders per 100,000 citizens. New York City, which has a population of roughly 8.4 million, closed out 2022 with 433 murders, the Wall Street Journal reported, for a murder rate of 5.2 murders per 100,000 citizens.

Columbus also run by a democrat, right?

What do you mean "maybe" not murders? Yes or no?
you are going to show me proof that murders have been downgraded to misdemeanors. And then you're going to tell me which felonies have been downgraded to misdemeanors. Typing shit up in a message board is not a source. You're going to come up with evidence for your claims.
Trump isn't charged with Murder. Could you be any further off the target?

And you're comparing cities that are ALL RUN BY DEMOCRATS 😆

The numbers of murders in a small city are never compared to the murder of murders in a megalopolis. A city of 10,000 with 1000 murders compared with a city of let's say 6 million with 100 murders? Which city is considered safer?

"The Manhattan D.A.'s Office welcomes public safety conversations. We have them every day with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners," the statement added, pointing to New York Police Department data showing that shootings and homicides fell in the first quarter of 2023 "with progress in Manhattan helping to drive the overall citywide decrease."

As of April 2, 2023, the statement noted, nearly all major crime categories are lower in Manhattan now than they were last year: murders are down 14 percent, shootings are down 17 percent, burglaries are down 21 percent and robberies are down 8 percent.

"In D.A. Bragg's first year in office, New York City had one of the lowest murder rates of major cities in the United States – nearly three times lower than Columbus, Ohio," the statement said. "If Chairman Jordan truly cared about public safety, he could take a short drive to Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Akron, or Toledo in his home state, instead of using taxpayer dollars to travel hundreds of miles out of his way."
Good points and a fair quote from Bragg. New York State (and NYC) are safer and have fewer murders proportionately than most Republican states and the cities within them. There is often a deep anti-city hatred or fear among rural Republican MAGA voters that easily translates into blaming all Democrats for all the problems of crime in big cities.

Let’s take a moment to consider some statistics and sociological factors, not just hysterical partisan political claims.

In Republican-run and voting Ohio, combining cities and rural areas, there were a total of 820 murders in 2020, or 7.0 for every 100,000 people — the 19th highest murder rate among states.

In Democratic New York State, combining cities and rural areas, there were a total of 808 murders in 2020, or 4.2 for every 100,000 people — the 34th highest murder rate among states.

Looking at statistics it is obvious that in general “Southern” (usually Republican-administered) states have higher murder rates than Democratic states, as can be seen in the list compiled from FBI sources here:

List of U.S. states and territories by intentional homicide rate - Wikipedia

I don’t make any claims about exactly WHY this is true. But it certainly suggests some of the simple-minded arguments and propaganda on this issue is either wrong or missing perspective.

Of course not ALL perceptions and fears about crime in big cities and dense urban areas are baseless! It is certainly true that many black and Latin neighborhoods — often rife with gangs and drugs — ARE more dangerous than … white middle class suburban communities. How could that surprise anyone, in either party?

Poor rural states in the South may have unique problems with crime and murder that I am not familiar with. Many states have unique regional problems, often related to poverty, poor education, geography and lack of jobs. History and migration patterns also can’t be ignored — racial problems and legal & illegal immigration flows also surely have impact.

Perhaps perceptions and statistics are also influenced by sociological changes. For example many tens of millions of ordinary people today live insulated and quite safe lives in “gated communities” or “retirement communities” … as in my own state of Florida, where I where shorts and never “carry” — unless I must go shopping in Walmart or go to a discount outlet.

The hysterical propaganda pushed these days by many politicians preaching hatred and spreading crazy paranoia undoubtedly has warped many minds as well. I lived and drove a taxi cab as a young man in New York City in the early 1970s, when murder, crime and racial tensions there were much worse than today. Hell, NYC was much dirtier then too.

Many cities besides NYC back then had huge economic problems as traditional industrial jobs disappeared and our “new” internet economy had not yet evolved. Back in those days there was the Vietnam War still being fought and “burned out” veterans were becoming a thing on the streets and in bars. Later waves (and “raves”) of cocaine, crack and amphetamine spread through society, replacing the more withdrawn opiate addicts, giving crime an added kick. Those times were really bad.

For ordinary people who managed to get through those years in one piece, with our minds not jangled and with a little understanding, the political hysteria today about a big city “crime wave” seems a bit excessive. We have long had the largest per capita prisoner population of any advanced country of the world. Shall we now double it? It amazes me that some extremists think and act as if our country and Republic are already dead.

***

Speaking strictly personally, with a little hard-earned savings, a small condo in my gated community in Florida, with Social Security and Medicare (and a small pension from my old blue collar job) my wife and I live better than ever, and better than my parents did. The Democrats who run this part of Florida (the “Gold Coast”) are decent and doing a pretty good job. Black-white relations are pretty good, at least on a personal level. We have no Confederate Flags or monuments here either.

Sure, we have a Republican MAGA Governor who I dislike (and abortion is under grave attack!) but the economy here has recovered and hopefully will hold up elsewhere (despite wars and world political troubles). Of course we all get old and die, but I’m surviving … for now at least. My grand-daughter I worry for. Who wouldn’t?

Table A4, you raving lunatic.
Whites in poverty: 248,909
Blacks in poverty: 48,225
You lose again, you racist punk….
I used the tables in your link, Simp …

You, Nostra are the only raving lunatic here — you do not even know how to read a simple chart!

The chart in question says clearly that “population figures” are measured “in thousands.” Your figures need to have three zeros added to them to be accurate!

The giveaway was so obvious — the total population of the country is listed as 328,000 — not 328 million!

By the way, historical realities, like modern figures on poverty related to income but not “wealth” … further hide important distinctions in the U.S.A. Having your own home and car and a quarter million in the bank may still allow you to be considered “poor” if you have a very low paying job or are unemployed, but being homeless with no car and zero in the bank … is a very different experience.

Finally, your comments above are typically crude and insulting.

My point stands, Dumbass.

Five times more whites in poverty than blacks, Snowflake.

Now you fall back to a different point (whatever it is) entirely, Nostra. You are still the “dumbass” that you accuse your betters of being. Keep making “points” in your own head and thinking you are winning some argument you are having with yourself.

By the way “blacks” are only about 12% of the population and still constitute a disproportionate number of poor and very poor, and an even higher disproportionate percent of criminals and prisoners. Of course many “whites” and “Latinos” (now our nation’s largest minority) are also “poor” by official standards — which is exactly what I point out in my comment #108.

You remain a crude and insulting “doofus” — who cannot read a chart or make & stick to an intelligent argument.

Of course the numbers drop when fat man Bragg refuses to prosecute murderers, rapists, muggers. Or just drops the felony down to a misdemeanor hand slap as the victim and their families suffer again. The real numbers are far worse than what his doctored statistics say.
You know those figures aren't of persecutions, but actual crime stats, right?

Of course Gym Jordan himself was criming in Ohio.

You know that the stats don’t get get counted if they don’t get charged you fat retard? Another epic fail fatso. Sorry asshole, the bogus charges against Jordan were fully recanted when those liars were reminded of perjury charges.

Trumptards have been blaming Congressional Democrats for the conditions in their districts forever.

Don't be getting all amnesiac all of a sudden, dipshit.
Hey dumbfuck, are Dems in charge of this event shitholes cities or not retard? Many of those shitholes have been under Dem control for decades. Don’t get amnesiac all of a sudden dipshit.

You parroting idiots never engage a single brain cell in original thought. You just parrot what you are told to parrot.

Pathetic.
There goes another irony meter. By the way asshole, you are pathetic. And ignorant,

What do crime rates in Ohio have to do with this issue?

Conservatives: "let's not waste our time pretending people getting killed is a problem. Let's talk about prostitutes giving illegal blowjobs and not being charged with a felony".
I'm not sure that's a felony.

.

You are the biggest collection of submissive cuck lickspittles to ever walk the Earth.
Another irony meter down the drain. Hey dumbfuck, James has her hands full after being shown to have been hiding sexual harassment in HER office. Oops. The rest of your verbal diarrhea is just your usual parroting of Dem talking points.
