Collective action for collective well being is logical. Some people, for good or ill, want to associate negative nouns to it, like "socialism", "communism", "free feces".
It would be good to have an honest discussion of what we could do better collectively. Unfortunately that requires honesty, as well as intelligence and good will. These do not appear in abundance in American social exchange.
