Border Protection Commissioner Admits No New Border Wall Miles Built

1. Trump's wall replaces inadequate wall with new 30' high wall. It makes compete sense to replace inadequate wall first since no new land is needed. "New wall Extensions" would be way outside the corridors where effective wall is needed. CBP supports the "new wall" replacing the old inadequate wall.

2. Trump could make Mexicans pay for the new wall and CBP (~$4b/FY) by imposing a "remittance tax" on all money sent out of the USA.

3. Border apprehensions are way down starting FY2020, as more wall gets built fewer and fewer illegals will cross illegally.

Who said it was all going to be 30'? My understanding is that in less accessible area it will be 18' and no wall at all in some inaccessible areas.

Border protection commissioner admits no miles of new border wall have been built despite Trump's claim of "great progress"

President Donald Trump has been claiming that the border wall is well underway in construction, but the acting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) commissioner was unable to support those remarks after repeated questioning by a reporter.

The exchange occurred on Thursday when a reporter, whose identity was not clear from a C-SPAN video, asked acting CBP commissioner Mark Morgan for a status update on "how many miles of wall has been constructed, not wall that's replacing old wall, but new wall that has been built to this point."

"So 78 miles of new wall has been built," Morgan replied.

The reporter, skeptical about Morgan's claim, pushed him further.

"Much of that obviously is replacing wall that formerly existed, that the president said was insufficient," the reporter said. "How many miles of wall where there was no wall whatsoever?"

Morgan responded that "every mile of wall that is being built is a new mile of wall."

The reporter asked again for Morgan to differentiate between renovated or replaced wall, and wall where no barrier previously existed.

"So right now, 78 miles have been built, have been built where there was an existing form of barrier," Morgan said, effectively admitting that none of the wall that has been constructed has been in new areas.

"We just started breaking ground in [Rio Grande Valley] where we're building miles of new wall where there has been no structure there at all," the acting CBP commissioner said.

"So that's just now starting the construction of new wall?" the reporter said, seeking to clarify.

"That's correct, that's correct," Morgan admitted.

Why are LefTards so obsessed with “new wall”?
I thought you hated racist walls?

Let me ask you this...If the existing wall/fence is in strategic locations and looks like this....

Would it make any sense to replace that..before moving on to that “new” racist wall/fence?

Post #21 may be correct that some places its 18' and some places its 30'. If you google it you can find both heights.
Trump administration is promising a 'new' border wall. The reality is less clear

Weren't you liberals just saying Trumps new wall is being sawed through?

Trump doesn't have a new wall. The replacement fence is easily sawed through though.
Not true, look at how the flow of illegals is dropping. The new wall is doing its job.

It isn't dropping.
Look at the graph for post #5. October FY2020 dropped from 2019. As more wall gets built the number should drop even more.

Which is better, replacing a wall in an area that was known for illegal entry or building a new one in an area where nobody ever goes? You have to hand it to the President for going ahead with a campaign promise in the middle of a political coup.

Fake news. This has already been discussed on here in the past week. Get new source material. Even your precious NYT has confirmed that sections of entirely new border wall are currently under construction.

Under Construction in Texas: The First New Section of Border Wall

Not to mention, much of the 78 miles of wall that has been built replaced vehicle barriers, which is not human barrier wall. Thus, all of that was indeed new wall. 159 miles of new wall are scheduled to be built through 2020.

CBP Completes Construction of 50 miles of New Border Wall | U.S. Customs and Border Protection

WASHINGTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection has completed construction of approximately 50 miles of new bollard wall projects authorized by funding from fiscal years 2017 and 2018.

Since January 2017, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have received funding to support construction of up to approximately 201-205 miles of new border barriers through a combination of appropriations and the Treasury Forfeiture Fund (TFF). This funding is supporting the top border barrier priorities for the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP).

In fiscal year 2017 CBP received $341 million for the construction of approximately 40 miles of new Bollard Wall and gates in priority areas at the San Diego, El Centro, El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley Sectors. To this date, CBP has completed the construction of approximately 99 percent of the 40 miles funded in fiscal year 2017. Additionally, construction of 35 gates to close gaps in current border infrastructure in the Rio Grande Valley sector continues.

CBP also has completed approximately 10 miles of the 80 miles of new border wall of funded by Congress for fiscal year 2018. The $1.375 million assigned for construction will allow CBP will focus its construction efforts in priority areas in the Rio Grande Valley and San Diego.

Border wall construction planning efforts will continue in fiscal year 2019, as CBP will use $2 billion authorized by Congress to build approximately 85 miles of new border wall focus in the Rio Grande Valley.

New Levee Wall System Panel Installation Begins in Rio Grande Valley | U.S. Customs and Border Protection

This project consists of approximately eight miles of new levee wall system in locations where no barriers currently exist. The contract for this project was awarded in November 2018. This project is similar to the 76 miles of new border wall system recently constructed in the San Diego, El Centro, Yuma, and El Paso Sectors. In addition to a physical barrier, the new levee wall system also includes an enforcement zone, which will include technology to provide situational awareness, as well as an all-weather road for lateral access.

Since January 2017, approximately $9.8 billion has been identified to construct approximately 509 miles of new border wall system through a combination of Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense funding and the Treasury Forfeiture Fund. This includes approximately 110 miles of new levee and border wall system within USBP’s RGV Sector in areas where no barriers currently exist.

CBP continues to implement President Trump’s Executive Order 13767 – also known as Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements – taking steps to expeditiously plan, design, and construct a physical wall using appropriate materials and technology to most effectively achieve operational control of the southern border.

First, more wall is not being built and second, the number of people getting in is not going down.
