7 in 10 Americans oppose data centers built near where they live

NOT IF THERE IS NO RIVER.

I’m not involved with planning the construction of data centers, nuclear power plants, or any similarly resource intensive infrastructure but…

… I have to imagine that those who are would have thought to ask the question, “Is there water around?” sometime fairly early in that planning process.

If the townspeople dont want it are you good with overriding them?
The townspeople do not get to decide what industries locate there. What part of that do you not understand? Their elected officials make those decisions. This is not Ancient Greece. You are not in the agora and get to vote!

Texas, Dipshit.

And I am supposed to just accept the mention of a single state without any kind of reference to even confirm what you say is true?

Nice to see that instead of actually answering, you vomit up a single word then cast an insult.

Just as they do not get to decide if a bar goes in a block away, the local dance club changes from techno to Tejano, somebody buys up an apartment complex and builds a mansion, or if the bar across town decides it wants to host nude dancing.

That is what zoning and local regulations are for.

It never ceases to amaze me how often people who try and scream about "their rights" freely think they have the "right" to tell others what they can and can not do on their own property. I swear, we now have a generation of Karen's who simply have to have somebody and something to scream at or they are miserable.

Not in my back yard. Not within 20 miles of my town.

Got it, to you is all about NIMBY.

Then you are just a Luddite. Log off your computer this minute Methuselah. You might be using a data center in someone's backyard, and I wouldn't want you to be a hypocrite!

Oh, I know for a fact they are using a data center.

Unless somebody actually thinks that USMB is hosted on somebody's home computer in their basement. Like 99% of other forums, this is hosted in a data center.

They also do not like crime, and a great many do not like minorities moving in next door.

Are you honestly trying to make a claim that people should get whatever they want, irreguardless of anything else?

What, are you in your "Terrible Two's" or something?

Specifically, that is what zoning laws are for. Don't want one, then request that the city council prohibit them under the zoning laws.

But then you have no reason to complain when them and the income they bring in go to another town. Kinda like how the multi-billion dollar a year automotive industry has all left California.

And I absolutely love the absurdity of all these neo-Luddites screaming about "data centers" in an on-line forum. I wonder if they are the same kind that demand that cops be de-funded, and at the same time scream at high crime rates.

I was only saying that the particular data center might be in someone's back yard., as opposed to somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

We are currently having an issue with a proposed data center adjacent to the Nashville Zoo. But the opposition is doing it the right way by petitioning the zoning authorities place it somewhere else rather than next to the zoo.

If they want to build charge them outrageously high prices.
They are building one just outside our city after which the city tripled the tax rate on data centers to keep them out of the actual city.

All they offer most locals is higher utility bills, grossly inflated housing prices, and more traffic congestion, plus a wave of neurotic obnoxious incel geeks who work hard at being assholes. the fact that they can't exist without huge govt. subsidies should be a clue. And when the bubble pops, all that crap will be left behind for the locals to have pay to clean up.

You think wrong. Thats the point.

You know, not long ago I asked you to actually validate a claim you had made. And here we are two days later, and you have yet to actually provide any proof to your claim.

Funny how this happened when people are actually asked to provide proof to back up their claims simply ignore that.

Sink worrier is on a break from his job washing dishes at his Texas located Mexican restaurant. He doesn't have time to back up his ridiculous ideas he gets while filling his sink up with dishwater.

Well, I to be honest find it annoying when people make incredibly vague claims, then are unable to take the effort to provide any kind of reference. Then when challenged either demand I do their work for them (most times impossible as you can not prove a negative), ghost the request, or simply vomit up more insults and do not provide any references.

Something that always disgusts me, which is why I almost never take part in political discussions. And one would think here in the "science" section people would actually back up their claims.
