Yes, the Cult of Bluey has me now. Yeah, I'm talking about the cartoon with talking dogs on the Disney Channel. Thing is, it's not actually a kids' cartoon. That's the secret. It's written for adults. Kids are okay with it, but it's not their favorite.
It's Australian. That helps. Everything is better with an Australian accent.
The main character isn't the kids. The main focus is on Dad, and how he plays with the kids. He adores the kids, and the kids adore him. There's usually something in every episode that makes you go "awwww", and sometimes it brings you to tears.
Example. "The Show". The kids put on a little show for Mom and Dad, pretending to be Mom and Dad. Kid-Mom puts a balloon under her shirt to simulate being pregnant. The balloon accidentally pops. Real Mom's face drops. Dad takes her hand to comfort her. It's subtle, and I missed it first time viewing, but they're grieving about a miscarriage. Kids are not going to notice that.
And let's not bring up "Baby Race".
