Blount Co. (TN) Commission To Ask God Not To Murder Them Over SSM

.
Having lived in Hickman County I can attest to the fact that people are fiercely and I mean fiercely people of faith in certain counties.

But without mocking them. You really do have to understand that they are people who aren't trying to be mean or horrible. It's just a matter of their faith.

But what kind of faith are they practicing?

Jesus commanded everyone to obey the government.....regardless of whether the government is right or wrong, a Christian obeys. That doesn't mean that any of them have to tolerate homosexuality or participate in it, unless they have a job that caters to the public, like Kim Davis' job, then you have to do what is required, but it doesn't make you a participant. I think many Christians are befuddled about what is expected of them....or maybe they are succumbing to the political pressure put on them by leaders that obviously don't know Christianity either.

I understand the Word very well and embrace it. But I've also been worldly. But we are dealing with individuals in my humble opinion here who are only simple.

Boy how do I put this nicely. MMMMMMMMMMMM. I'm really sick so I'm not on my game here. These are really really simple folks. And except for a few this has nothing to do with meaness. Or being cruel. Or wanting deny some body else their rights.

As a born again this is a spiritual struggle. I've known and worked with the sweetest souls from the LGBT community in my days in the entertainment industry. So many far sweeter than those who profess their so called faith.

But Mertex we are not dealing with people like us and I don't want to try to make us come off as superior. Let's just say our intellect is different than theirs. Boy I hope that makes sense.

I see what you are saying. It is sad, though, that so many people have gotten confused about their responsibility as being a Christian. Back in Jesus' day, the Pharisees imposed additions to the laws that the Christians were already following as Jews till it became unbearable for the believers. Jesus came to free believers of all that bondage, and yet so many Christians today want to be under bondage and take it upon themselves to own the sins of others.
Jesus came to free the people from the bondage death of living in their own sin. He at no time said keep on sinning.
So, how does someone else being homsexual keeps you sinning?

they don't.

They are only getting it from the nice man during a Sunday sermon. A man who is just another human talking about three versus for their flock. Boy I hope this makes sense.

Basically what I am saying is we are dealing with spiritual illiterates. Trying not to be harsh here but still laying it on the line.

That's for sure. And that was predicted too........there will be people who form their own opinion about what constitutes sin and they lead others astray. And true, they are spiritual illeterates, but it isn't rocket science. How in the hell do they get so far from the truth? They want to be seen as so "holy" by their persecution of others who they think are committing sins, and get so wrapped up in their holiness, that they actually become more like Satan in the process....and that is certainly not the way that Jesus taught his disciples to win others to Him.

Really simply they either can't or will not read. I met one so called pastor here who would literally take like three versus and string together a sermon that was based on nothing. Except pass the collection plate.

They get this print out "I'm a pastor" signs and then actually lead these small communities. Remember Night of the Hunter? You get into small communities and Robert Mitchum is looks like a freaking star.

It's not the flocks fault.

I remember when I made it thru the begats. :) Holy toledo this isn't an easy journey to make it thru both books. But by the way it really is an awesome journey.

Excuse me for perhaps being a bit trite. But to keep on sinning is the whole reason for Jesus is it not?

That we continue to sin is a fact, but no, Jesus came to forgive our sins, and to free us from the bondage of the law. Our whole objective as Christians is let Jesus, who is sinless live our lives for us....which is no easy task. But never did he ever say we were responsible for the sins of others. And, especially if we are not even sure that whatever it is we think is a sin, is a sin. It appears that those who are against homosexuality seem to think that because the Supreme Court has ruled it legal for them to marry, that everyone is being labeled as a "homosexual" in the eyes of God. That is not only false, it is bat-shit crazy.

Impressive. One thread for every white hating, southern hating ASSHOLE to congregate at!

So you, the biggest asshole had to make his appearance, right?

The Pilgrims were some of the most intolerant people ever to occupy the shores of America. In fact, they routinely exiled people from the colony for violating the rules of their faith, when such exile meant almost certain death, living outside the colony, at the mercy of native-Americans.
And so. It was their faith that established the original government.

Nobody said everyone from Tenn. is an idiot or a hick. And....there are lots of highly intelligent people who have a belief in a god. It's not an indication that one is stupid......it is an indication that one can be indoctrinated from an early age.

If that's your thing.....have at it. But let's not try to be in charge. That requires reason.
Those are elected positions so it looks like they are already in charge at the peoples request.
No, not at all. We have built our government to have boundaries, Every single one of us is free to practice our own religion, you can practice what you believe and I can do the same. Neither allows infringement upon the laws that bind us together. The people in Tennessee seek to usurp that if I read it correctly and that is patently wrong.
So what is your contention? The people cannot vote leaders in that make a petition to God? How is it that they violated you this time?

They violated the 1st Amendment with what they passed in the OP. It was an unambiguous government endorsement of religion which has been unconstitutional since the BoR was ratified.

Their beliefs and intentions are their own but as duly elected officials who swore an oath to uphold the US Constitution what they did was a violation and a de facto admission that they are unfit to hold office IMO.
You are entitle to your opinion and the people that voted them into office are entitled to theirs. Making a public prayer is not religion specific.

This is not about a public prayer but a violation of their duty as elected government officials.

Phew it made some sense. Yay. I've been so sick and on the mighty Q I'm thinking maybe I should just stick to a snow shovelling forum.

I think too and I think this is important Mertex. I have read the Word so many times. Both OT and NT and I'm telling you the shit in the OT will set your hair on fire  But most Christians haven't read the Bible.

They are only getting it from the nice man during a Sunday sermon. A man who is just another human talking about three versus for their flock. Boy I hope this makes sense.

I appreciate the honesty, but the problem is that these well intentioned people are serious that religion should dominate us and are becoming more militant as time goes on. The rest of us understand the reasons why the founders set the religious parameters in the constitution, but these folks are just as intent to rewrite our constitutional laws because religion says so.
Just as much as activist judges are willing to write legislation when in fact that is the job of congress not judges.

Please prove a credible non partisan :link: proving that happens.

faith shouldn't make someone a bigot. bigots deserved to be mocked. not for their faith. but for pretending their faith justifies their bigotry.

i guess jesus never said "judge not", eh?

Sigh. Mocking someone does not change their heart. These people are misled. I really believe that jillian. They are listening only to a guy on Sunday who does two to three verses from the bible and then spouts off and goes pass the collection plate.

Whoopsies. I wish I wasn't so sick.

I just realized I shouldn't have said their faith. I should have said their religion. There is a world of difference.

Just as much as gay me activist are going to shove their own sexual deviance and choices upon everyone else and their children?

It is disingenuous to claim that someone proclaiming a public prayer hurts you, makes you believe or forces you to change your ways.

I can say with absolute certainty that no gay activist is shoving their own sexual deviancy upon anyone and especially children. Those people have the same right to live in America and benefit from our freedoms. Further, I have never said I was hurt by a public prayer, although I am guilty of saying that I disagreed with the practice but accepted the laws decision concerning the matter.

It doesn't. Never said it did. Its all on you or whoever.

So why are anti gays so all up in arms about same-sex marriage? How does their marriage affect a Christian's marriage, life or religion?
It is all the force issues that come with that. Marriage has been traditionally defined for thousands of years. IMO; Government does not belong in the business of making up new definitions. Anyone can sign a contract had have it recorded.

No, I'm pretty cosmopolitan and live around 20 million people in a 100 mile radius.

add in that Lest ye be judged. And if He judges He does such in righteousness. No where does the Bible say to not discern right from wrong or that you must accept sin as a precursor.

poor loony toon.

try reading again... this time with comprehension.
I read the first page. That was enough.

and you then misrepresented the entire thread.

or are you saying that all southerners are bigots and we should love bigots?
Nope. I am saying that yankee swine and anti southern anti white assholes are assuming and proclaiming all southerners and whites as racist, bigoted, religious nuts etc. Just more asinine tripe from the usual suspects.
