They can? Quite an argument counselor.Inconvenient? They can slap a huge bill on you and collect on it until you prove it's not valid.

I pay my taxes. Why would I care?

Terrible to hear but a personal anecdote does not an argument make.See Post number 38

People have bad interactions with every agency that exists. IRS, Police, DMV, Doctors, Lawyers, etc etc.
This IRS, however, is not bound by any presumption of innocence. If they believe you owe them money, they can start the collection process and make you prove your innocence. They can garnish your wages or put a lien on your house or business, and there's nothing you can do about it until you prove they're wrong.Terrible to hear but a personal anecdote does not an argument make.

Im not an accountant so I dont know. I was just relaying what accountants said about IRS being late. And when you owe them money, they compound interest daily. How much interest will that company get for doing without their money?
Certainly it could be worrying to some, just like any agency can be worrying to some. But now you understand that paying your taxes does not mean you have nothing worry about....or did that escape you?

That's not a point, it's common sense.
Do you support defunding the police because sometimes they get it wrong?
Agreed, but in that vein it is naive to assume that nothing can ever go wrong.I do not support defunding either.
But it is naïve to assume since you do not break the law/pay your taxes you never have anything to worry about.

People and corporations need to pay what they are legally obligated to pay.
I agree with this.Which is why we need to get rid of all tax expenditures.
No more write off for homes or college or kids or anything else.
You make X you pay Y. Two people working the same job making the same amount of money should pay the same amount. One should not be paying more because they are not paying a mortgage or do not have kids.
Wow, a major attempt to deflect from what you said and make it about me. Who could have seen that coming?
Their is a lot of money flowing around a complex tax system.
But it can be. Rules for children. Green purchase credits. Donation deductions. Itemized or standard deduction. College payment deductions. Etc etc. It's not complex at all for those with low to moderate incomes, which are the vast majority of people.

Not for accountants. Those aren't hard or complex.
Not for accountants.
Well...two Presidents have...Reagan first, with the Tax Reform Act of 1986, which greatly simplified the tax system...then going further Trump didI agree with this.
A simplified tax code would be great but who is going to do it?
