No, trust me on this it's the profits. If government were reaping all the profits from fossil fuels you wouldn't hear a peep. Dems are on record, in congress on video expressing their desire for government to take over all the oil companies and SOCIALIZE the industry. Oil companies have 9,000 existing drilling leases that they are NOT currently using

"Members of the administration have been promoting the idea that companies are free to simply start using these leases if they’d like to. However, these statements can be misleading.

According to a Department of Interior report, the U.S. had more than 37,000 oil and gas leases just last year — so 9,000 is a small number comparatively — and just because an oil company has a lease doesn't mean they can just start drilling.

They must organize and safely manage their reservoir and satisfy several regulatory requirements, such as an onsite inspection, environmental review and permit approval. This process can actually take up to 10 years."


Those 9,000 permits might be offline for some regulatory reason as you can see from your own link. Being that we are approaching an emergency situation here, a SANE administration would help to incentivize a way for those companies to drill on 100% of the leases and add more.... instead of begging OPEC.
