I got this pile of crap in my email box. Its stupid and insulting and it goes on and on, lies and anti-American, anti-Constitution garbage from some old fart who knows nothing about most of what he preaches.

He has certainly hit the "world" on the head!

I would not consider sending a similar message, but supportive my own beliefs, to people in my email address book. If I did, I would fully expect to get told off and i would deserve it.

Why is this garbage preaching considered to be okay to inflict on people?

And, of course, I have the good manners and breeding to just quietly delete it. The problem with not behaving as crassly and ignorantly as "christians" do, is that they then believe they've got a green light to just keep sending more and more of this completely offensive stuff.

Believe whatever you want and you're welcome to it. But, won't you please have the grace and respect to just STFU about it? Just show people the same respect they show you and just leave them alone.

You're kidding, right? It's so much to ask because opinionated people often seek an audience on whom to dump/with whom to discuss their opinions. With those sorts of emails, Billy Graham's just satisfying the same sort of urge that you cmoe here to satisfy when you randomly put your beliefs on blast for an audience comprised in no small part of RW'ers who'd often rather you just STFU (though we disagree most of the time, I do not count myself among them. I love to argue)

I block anyone's future emails who send me politiical or religious messages. After being given a warning the first time, I even block family members who do this repeatedly. AS a result, I simply do not get these emials anymore.

I've considered doing that but, like I said, he's elderly and he's an in-law. I feel like I have to be nice to him. What's the good in sending the old fart's blood pressure through the roof?

I don't respond to the bible thumping emails he sends but he also send some really racist crap. I'm gentle and factual.

That's the thing about most of these chain emails. They're almost always garbage and untrue - a lot like some of the rw stuff posted here. All anyone has to do is spend 10 seconds or so googling for facts.

So, that's what I do. I send him facts and then all is quiet for a while. Then he'll do it again. Maybe he's so old he forgets about the last time.

And, like I said, I wouldn't even consider sending anything to him that was anti-bible thumping.

The fact of the matter is, "christians" believe they have the right to pound on our doors, ring our phones, approach us in stores and parks (that has happened to me) and send us emails like this one.

And, most people just quietly put up with it.

Open the email, don't read it, but hit reply with "So nice hearing from you. Hope all is well. Off to bed now, so goodnight".

Why don't you create a folder for just him and create rules to funnel the email into that folder and only look at it when it doesn't bother you? That way, you don't have to look at it full time and it will be out of sight.

Maybe they don't see themselves as harassing people and if you are too polite to delete the messages or put him on block then maybe he doesn't know because you don't tell him because that might hurt his feelings.

Honestly, I kinda feel you on this point. My mother used to send me Christian emails all the time, partially because I just don't have the heart to explain to her that I don't have faith in bible. She'd lose her shit.

I will say, though, I tend to give most Christians a pass on these emails being bourne of a dogma with which I don't agree. I only show them the same annoyance that I show anyone who sends me any sort of chain email. The reason I can forgive the Dogma is because I spent years in church, I understand that many sects of Christians believe that to not know Christ is to be bound for hell. A lot of these cats honestly feel they're trying to save you from an eternity of hellfire by steering you around to their point of view, even if their tactics are ill-advised. Since they're ultimately doing no harm, I can give 'em a pass based on the positive motives.

Sometimes to have a relationship you just have to accept them and their values for who they are.

I saw listening to Pastor Chris this morning on the radio on the way to work. He said people say, "I use to like you before you became a Christian" and what they really mean is that they don't like our light shining on their darkness.

Why should I give up being me because you are offended?

If people want to pray or express their beliefs, I'm pretty tolerant. If they wish to propose a different gospel or a different Jesus then I'm intolerant.

The thing is you can't control who comes to your door but you can control what comes in.

I have learned to beat other religious systems. I spend a lot of time on it. I'm not finished because of the number of man hours it will take.
