Beto O'Rourke says he still supports denying Texans their civil rights

At this point, I'm assuming O'Rourke's only purpose is to make Matthew McConaughey look sane.

I don't know much about McConaughey's positions but not only is it a losing position in Texas, he couldn't do it even if he won.

It's like he WANTS to lose.
He may have the support of at least one group, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP):
Criminal Use of Semi-Automatic Assault Weapons First passed in 1994, the assault weapons ban required domestic gun manufacturers to stop production of semi-automatic assault weapons and ammunition magazines holding more than ten rounds except for military or police use. While the ban was in place, it was remarkably effective in reducing the number of crimes involving assault weapons. In the period of the ban, (1994-2004) the proportion of assault weapons traced to crimes fell by a dramatic 66 percent. Semi-Automatic assault weapons are routinely the weapons of choice for gang members and drug dealers. They are regularly encountered in drug busts and are all too often used against police officers. The IACP has been a strong supporter of the assault weapons ban since 1992, and our membership has approved several reauthorizations of support in the years since. The membership took this action because we, as law enforcement executives, understand that the criminal use of semiautomatic assault weapons pose a grave risk to our officers and the communities they are sworn to protect.

The drunk Irish burglar's campaign is DOA. But a ton of out of state Dimtards will send him a bunch of money.

IOW, criminals don't give a flying fuck about the laws, and your stupid country has allowed the citizenry no recourse when confronted by these violent goons

The citizenry generally don't get involved in shoot outs with gang members and drug dealers (a good thing as this should be left to the professionals), it is the police that have to do that and the fewer assault weapons they have to face the better. IMHO.

Yeah, cuz gang members and drug dealers always follow the law. So making it illegal for them to own an AR will eliminate them having them. :cuckoo: :cuckoo: :cuckoo:

I guess you think we should eliminate all laws since criminals will just ignore them. After all, rape is illegal yet rapists still do it. :eusa_doh:

LOL, I certainly can't see that as a winning argument in Texas.

There was a time when I would have thought it be completely fucking insane for a president to side with a group of domestic terrorists burning, looting, stealing and wreaking havoc across multiple parts of our country. But not only do we have that, but we have an entire political party letting them do it.

Never under estimate democrats and shit ball nuts assholes to find a way to fuck Americans in this day and age.

A ban is different from what Beto is advocating. He wants to come and actually take your guns.

I doubt it is more than political rhetoric for his base. There are many things we can do to make law-abiding gun owners and non-owners safer, I'm not sure there is any evidence an assault gun ban is the best way.
