There's a great Paul Gilbert interview where he's talking about a guy from Pennsylvania called him and said you got to hear this guy played anyway over the phone he was blown away.

Rick Beato interviewed Tommy Emanuel who mentioned Chet Atkins from the 30s and 40 s ?
Or 40s and 50s....being a huge influence.
Chet Atkins or Mr. Guitar. Great example. He was one of three who created the Nashville sound. Pretty much saved Nashville from itself. His style of picking was called Travis picking. A style he got from Merle Travis. He was also influenced by Les Paul and later in life, Jerry Reed. That's why I don't believe in a 'best' when it comes to music.
