I believe we need to play both parties off each other to get what is good for America. I prefer Republican presidents to appoint (in my view) the best federal judges. But I also like Democrat presidents because it is the only time that raises Republican concern over the federal deficit. And I lean towards whichever party at the time is least intent on foreign intervention.

On a state level I prefer the executive and legislative branches of government being controlled by opposing parties.
