Beautiful snow this morning

It was one of those white knuckle commutes this morning after 6 inches of snow overnight. Roads were glare ice and even with 4hi engaged it was a hairy drive. A lot of black ice and too cold for road salt to work.
Cars fishtailing in front of me and a shitload of rush hour accidents and jacknifed semis.

Luckily the holidays are lighter traffic.

We got some crazy wind ahead of the snow you got, it came after about an inch of rain, but the wind just howled all night and wind chills that came with it were below zero.

Now that I'm retired I don't take the car out of the garage in weather like you were driving in.

I am always amazed at the idiots passing me in completely inappropriate vehicles for those conditions. Little sedans.
But did see a couple trashed trucks from overconfident drivers.
Four wheel will get you going easier, but the heavy pickups are even harder to stop.
The ice under the snow was real bad this morning, but afternoon was better on the main roads after the sun got on it for a while.

We had the freezing rain here ythe day before yesterday. That made a lot of ice on the roadways, mainly because of the salt. Windy as all get out today, though, and near 60. Down to low 30s again tomorrow.

Everybody's recycle bins are blown over and shit is all over the place.

Nobody uses trash bags for their recycle for some reason.

That black ice'll make you pucker up in a minute. I'm surprised people up your way aren't more experienced drivers in that environment. You were in your Tundra, I guess? How'd that do?

I heard the term "black ice" for the first time in 1989, my first year in Colorado. They warned about that all the time. That is the ice on the road you can't even see, it's safer to drive on hard packed snow.

That thing is awesome in the snow. But you can feel the weight of that truck compared to the Jeep I used to have when trying to stop in slick conditions. My ass puckered a couple times when someone ahead of me starts sliding.
A little different not having AWD as the in-between from 2 wheel to 4hi and deciding when to engage 4hi. I guess some Chevys and Rams have the AWD and 4hi like the Jeep did.

Boy am I glad I avoided the Twin Turbo 6 new Tundra. Lots of problems with those on the Toyota forum. The 2019 I bought is the first vehicle I have ever owned without a single recall. Approaching 100K miles and hopefully another 400K to go.

Every winter seems like a new experience for some of the fools on the road. Auto body shops do very well here.

One giveaway is when the pavement appears wet, but it's -20 out. That isn't wet, but pure ice. Typically from everyones exhaust freezing on the road. But if the ice is under the snow it gets pretty deceptive.
It started as rain that then turned to snow this time.

Yeah, definitely a different beast than a Jeep. I've never owned an AWD car or truck, so four wheel hi and low was as good as it got. I sometimes miss my old Pathfinder. That thing was awesome in the snow. Whenever I had projects going on in the Poconos and the surrounding areas and upstate NY in the winter, that thing was great. And fun at times.

But yeah, take care of it, and, like anything else, it'll sure last.

So far as the racalls, seems like a lot of truck manufacturers are forgetting how to build em right these days.

It's very pleasant waking up to the peace and serenity of a good snow covered landscape this morning. It especially pops on the pines. Though the other trees have their own apeal whe nblanketd in just the right kind of snow. Which it appears to be. Tha good, wet but fluffy stuff. I love it. The cardinals and a bunch of the other bird community are out there under the feeders and tucked under the branches. They really pop, too. The Blue Jays are out there calling for their peanuts. So I guess I'll head out there and enjoy their company for a bit. It's a fair trade.

Heck. I think I'm gonna turn this bad juju off and have some hot tea and bathe in it fro the kitchen window table. And I never have hot tea...
We now also have lots of snow in Germany. 😊

15th post
Snow is a gift from god.

This evening's gift comes in the form of a blizzard with up to 45mph winds. Two feet of what the forecasters call ''heart attack'' snow.

I thought this stuff was likely in the reaar view. But I guess I was wrawng...

The stench of pineapple blossoms are on the wind today ... this Hawaiian air mass is certainly warm, pushing 60's all week ... and the foot of rain might catch us up to average ... funny, th eWeather Service isn't calling this an atmospheric river, they're calling it a full blown 100% Pineapple Express baby, know where your high ground is ... I always brought a change of clothes to work on days like today ... if case I'm completely soaked by lunch ... if you don't work in the rain in Jefferson, you don't work ...

We don't shovel rain ...
