Banning Students?

"Undocumented students could be denied enrollment in Tennessee public schools under new legislation introduced by Republican state lawmakers in a direct challenge to current federal law.

The bills are set for debate in the House Education Committee and the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee this week, where lawmakers could vote to advance the legislation for further consideration.

Both bills are unconstitutional under the U.S. Supreme Court’s 1982 decision in Plyler v. Doe, the sponsors of the legislation acknowledge. That decision held that students have a right to a free public education regardless of their immigration status. If passed, the Tennessee legislation could become a test for the conservative-leaning Supreme Court to revisit the decision amid a broader crackdown on illegal immigration by the Trump administration."
So what’s your position on the issue?

All you did was quote directly from the article. That’s pretty boring

You have to catch them first after they have busted up your car, broken into your house, beat up or raped your kids? That's OK with you?

I am not rolling out the mat. SCOTUS did many years ago. Take it up with them. I am telling you how it is. Don't like facts, oh well!

So, by your statement, we basically agree.
So, you are for keeping the welcome mat rolled out forever!

Our message to illegal immigrants is 1. Don't come to America illegally, and 2. If you do come here illegally with minor children, we will provide an education for them and feed them twice a day, making it easy for you to remain in America illegally.

If we truly want to stop illegal immigration, then we should make living in America illegally difficult, not easy. When this is accomplished, many illegals will self deport. The incentives to come here illegally in the first place will be taken away.

I just told you what the SCOTUS said. You are attributing things that I never said to me. I think we agree more than you realize.

So once SCOTUS says something, that's the way it has to be forever.....and you are incapable of having a position contrary to SCOTUS?

Do we agree more than I realize? Maybe. I don't think it would be wise to turn illegal immigrant children out our public schools overnight; however, I do believe it could be done reasonably over a number of years. Hopefully a short number of years.

I happen to agree with that decision. You may feel free to disagree. Until we deport them, they need to be in school.

Many of these kids are the American-born children of illegals. You have to educate them no matter what.

Go ahead and challenge the case if you wish. I don't care. I abide by the current law. If it changes, I will be happy.

No, they don't deserve it. Get a freaking green card first.

Plyler needs to be revisited.

... I don't think it would be wise to turn illegal immigrant children out our public schools overnight;....

There go those goalposts. I knew they'd move sooner or later.

It's amazing how many constitutional scholars we have here!

It's not that difficult of an English text. If you've passed 12th grade English you should be able to understand it, mostly.
Apply some historical perspective, especially the 18th century context of English language of then.
It is the Citizen's Owner's Manual after all.
Supplement with the 100+ questions on the USCIS citizenship test.

So what’s your position on the issue?
...
My position is that no one should be here illegally.
My position is that if the government did its job this wouldn't be an issue.
My position is that as long as a school-aged child is in this country, we are all better off if they are in school instead of on the streets with nothing but trouble to get into.
My position is that if a student is in my classroom, I'm going to teach them. I don't know the immigration status of any student in my classroom, and I don't need to know.

There go those goalposts. I knew they'd move sooner or later.
If you had been reading my posts in this thread, you would see that I have been consistent on that point. Several times I suggested it to be transitioned over time in previous posts. See post 150 and post 157.

That's a lie.
Giving government benefits to illegals is rolling out the red carpet. You are for giving illegal immigrant children the benefit of a public education.

Illegal immigrants are allowed many things such as the ability to get a driver's license, the ability to become employed (which is supposed to illegal but happens anyway), and the ability to enroll their children that are also illegal immigrants if not born here in public education. This makes it easy for illegal immigrants to simply blend in with the legal residents of our country. We also have several states and cities that are sanctuaries to illegal immigrants that turn a blind eye to them being here illegally.

Passing a citizenship test does not make you a constitutional scholar, dumbass!
