"Former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin pleaded guilty Wednesday to a federal count alleging he willfully deprived George Floyd of his rights during the May 25, 2020, arrest that led to the Black man’s death. He also pleaded guilty to an unrelated but similar count stemming from the use of force against a then-14-year-old boy in 2017.

Essentially, it means Chauvin has acknowledged for the first time that he violated Floyd’s rights. Chauvin admitted he knew what he did to Floyd was wrong and that he had a “callous and wanton disregard” for Floyd’s life -- With the guilty plea, Chauvin avoids the possibility of a life sentence. Instead, the defense and prosecutors have agreed to a sentence ranging from 20 to 25 years."

This is pretty bad news if you are someone who feels Derek got a raw deal and that George basically had it coming...It's bad because Derek can no longer appeal any subsequent federal conviction who could have received if he lost his federal trial...However, he admitting that he callously and wantonly disregarded Floyd's life -- kind of puts a damper on his current appeals of his state convictions....I guess the only good news is that he won't serve any longer time than he is already sentenced to serve....However, it is disappointing to see Derek bow down to the justice system instead of fighting for his innocence.....Majority of the country would have supported him if he just kept fighting....

The whole thing is over. The jury has spoken. The vast majority of people no longer care. Moving on. Thankfully.
