Shannon Owens, the wife of the late Pope County Sheriffs Deputy, Josh Owen, who was gunned down in the line of duty, told VP candidate Tim Walz if he showed up at th funeral she'd "escort his ass out of here."
This began when Walz called the widow, after her husband had been killed. She said "I took the phone call. I didnât say much. I just let him ramble because that is what politicians do,â she told the Telegraph.
âI said, âAre you planning on coming to the funeralâ and he said, âOf course Iâd be honored to comeâ and I said, âWell, youâre not welcome.â And heâs like, âWhy is that?â And I said, âBecause you defunded the police. You donât even support the police, why would I want you to come?â
Shannon also said âAnd Josh did not like him at all. And that would have been his wishes to not have any corrupt politicians there."
The cop was upset with law enforcement reforms put in place after the death of George Floyd, which sparked nationwide protests.
After Floydâs death, Walz signed a bill that banned chokeholds and mandated that officers report and intervene when fellow officers use excessive force.
He also established a state investigation unit for police officers as well as a database for police misconduct. In 2023, he signed a bill limiting no-knock warrants.
Walz âwent too farâ in introducing reforms after Floydâs death, Shannon said.
