Back pay for government-shut-down workers might not happen, Trump stated

I have been calling for no back pay and I hope trump goes through with it
You are certainly showing this trait

Nomercy.webp

Furloughed because of a political fight they are not involved with. They were simply doing the job they were hired to do.

That doesn't change the fact that they aren't working. Why do people deserve to get paid for not working simply because they are a government employee? Several years back during the Great Recession the company I work for had every employee above a certain salary grade take an extra two weeks of unpaid vacation in order to stave off layoffs. These people were furloughed for two weeks and didn't get paid for it. Why are government employees so deserving of sympathy and extra special considerations that the rest of us don't get?

Back pay will be issued for those that continued working.
But, some nonessential/overlapped programs/departments may be cancelled
because of the Schumer Shutdown.

Thats too radical to take seriously

The shutdown enables a much needed reduction in force within the bloated federal government and we should tske advantage of it

But we dont want to throw the baby out with the bathwater

#1 There will be not firings and back pay. Shut down cost MORE money in the long term then if the government had remained open.

#2 No, it's not to redical. It ensure that budgets get passed so they DON'T expire. What a concept.

The shutdown does enable trump to fire nonessential federal workers and he should

I’m thinking a 40% reduction is a good place to start

To get what they'll "likely want," they need to win some more seats. That appears unlikely with Democrats supporting policies that mist voters find absurd and wrong. Then those Democrats face threatened primary challenges from people who support even more absurd policies.

But maybe i'm wrong. What policies and candidates do you see increasing the number of the democrats in congress?
I think the electorate doesn't want a massive increase cost and less access to Healthcare...

This whole healthcare to immigrants is a basic lie... Outside your media bubble it has been explained very well...

This funding is about reducing spending on healthcare in Medicaid and Medicare to pay for the Tax Cuts which went to the wealthy... Tax Cuts benefit the rich far more than the poor. Social spending helps the poor as much as it helps the rich, but there are more poor than rich.

This pisses off MAGA... They were sold this lie of shit and if they disagree now, they look stupid. In true MAGA form, when wrong or even feel wrong, double down...

Democrats have done a decent job hear explaining their point and the polls reflect that... MAGA/GOP started off thinking that Dems are going to fold (with three senator initially voting for CR). They have now seen that the public are blaming GOP for the shutdown and Dems are being told by their own supporters not to give in..
Dems have to just sit tight, this shutdown is on the GOP dime... It is not being helped with Trump deciding to do a 6 day media blackout (executive time) and then play golf during the weekend...

The federal governmet is too big and wastes too much money

We should defund ALL the NGOs also
Life is full of injustices because humans are human and fallible. There has always been (and will always exist) greed, fear, errors, corruption, etc.

You can always find something to point to that will support your narrative. The problem is always the excesses, as those are the ones that create the big and difficult-to-solve problems that do cause permanent damage.

The Federal government DOES spend too much money, and we should all try to find solutions to it. Nonetheless, some solutions CREATE bigger problems elsewhere, meaning that they are not solutions that will make life better for the nation.

Trump is the symbol for EXCESS, and his problem-solving actions will bring bigger and damaging-to-the-nation problems that will make our lives worse, even though the problem being addressed may be fixed.

It is like medicines that we all take for the health problems we have. All medicines have some potential bad side effects that will cause us (if taken) more harm than the problem we are trying to fix.

As such, we try to make medicines that offer the least possibility of that happening.

In the case of Trump (and in looking at him like a medicine), it says on the bottle that if you take the medicine (to help cure cramps you have), there is a 95% chance that you will get cancer!

Would you take that medicine for curing the "cramps" in spite of the probabilities being high of getting cancer?

What say you?

Firing nonessential government employees will not solve all our problems but it will make things better

You may not think so since libs see the proper role of government as to wipe every nose

But obviously I dont agree

In reply to your question, I will answer you with another question that your answer your question. "Why should you pay the price for something another person did"? It was not your fault, so why should you pay for it?

Mind you, this is the Federal government and it has to survive because if it doesn't, then the nation is fried. As such and for the benefit of the nation (and its citizens), you can force them to pay for your mistakes. They had absolutely nothing to do with top brass bad judgement!

Subdidies dont change costs, they change who pays the costs. Explain why I should pay for yours?

"Immigrants" who crossed the border illegally and were given "legal status" by Team Autopen have their healthcare subsidized by taxpsyers. The BBB will end that, as it should.

The Dems and "not Dems" in the Senate have a clean CR that continues spending as already agreed to by both houses and the Senate. They don't even have to vote for it, just end their filibuster.

They chose to de-fund government, not Trump. What should he do to convince them to pay fedemps and feed women, infants, and children?

again, excesses are the problem.

What is happening to the government with deficits climbing every year has been happening for 50 years and we have all survived it. What Trump is doing is going out of the box and trying to do something new (which is not always a bad thing) but unfortunately he is going to the excess, and that will likely cause us citizens, bigger problems that will cause more harm than the harm caused the last 50 years.

It is like using a buzz saw to cut a piece of paper. You are more likely to cut off your hand than cutting the paper.

White House memo says furloughed workers might not get back pay

Trump is using the threat of federal workforce cuts to force them to back the GOP’s clean continuing resolution. Furloughed federal workers may not be eligible for back pay after the government shutdown, according to a memo circulated by the White House, another escalation in its pressure campaign against Senate Democrats.

When asked about it at the Oval Office Tuesday, President Donald Trump said that while the administration has a keen interest in taking “care of our people, “there are some people that really don’t deserve to be taken care of, and we’ll take care of them in a different way.”

That is a scary statement because it suggests that if you (as a citizen) support the Democrats wanting to ensure that Medicaid and Medicare don't get cut (which is why the Democrats did not try to prevent a government shutdown), that you will not get paid what you are due (as a government worker).

Here is what our country has always represented for its citizens: ‘The livelihoods of the patriotic Americans serving their country in the federal government are not bargaining chips in a political game,’ the American Federation of Government Employees national president said.

The irony of this Trump statement is that he totally supported the opposite of this in 2019, when the government shut down that year:

Trump signs law guaranteeing back pay for federal workers

President Trump on Wednesday signed a bill guaranteeing back-pay to federal workers furloughed during the partial government shutdown that began in December.

The White House announced that Trump has signed the bill in a brief statement Wednesday afternoon as the partial shutdown dragged into its 26th day.

He has done a total about-face from 2019, because in 2019, it helped him politically, but in 2025 it is hurting him. This shows that Trump is not a man that cares about you (as a citizen) but only cares about his own political wins. You are just a pawn in his game.

You like/enjoy being a pawn/puppet?

I think they should get back pay. Its not their fault they are off work.

Our congress should have been big boys and girls and not let this have happened.

Trump plays hardball, unlike every other R in recent memory who just takes it. Team blue is getting a taste of their own medicine. lol
Why is he playing hardball with the lives of employees who are innocent victims of Congressional bickering?

Is he that callous with the lively hood of innocent people?

We spend money foolishly such as the war in Iraq and Afghanistan

There’s trillion or two that I wish we had back

But the War on Poverty has been an expensive failure also

We live but we dont learn

I would fire 30-40 percent even without the shutdown as a excuse

15th post

Has nothing to do with the shutdown

Trump had DOGE to figure out who is needed
Fifing innocent people who are doing their job is cruel and unnecessary

Thats what I just alluded to

But politically it makes good cover for something we wanted to do anyway

Kamala? Is that you?

This word salad is meaningless.

Where are these cuts to Medicare and Medicaid that affect US citizens?

COVID Emergency subsidies should end... and here's why.

They were enacted explicitly due to the COVID emergency. That emergency has ended... and the subsidies should sunset exactly as the Democrat intended.

All 100% fact.
No chance they will accept those facts.
